EMMAUS HOUSE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Mission of Emmaus

Breakdown of Monthly Costs

If I look at the mass,

I will never act.
If I look at the one, I will.
- Mother Teresa

The goal of Emmaus House is to restore hope to the youth of Haiti by teaching them to be dependent

on God and to become self-supporting young adults. Until those goals are achieved, the youth of
Emmaus House will need a continued support system to help them on their journey through this
transitional time in their lives. Your potential sponsorship will support an individual as they participate
in the Emmaus program. It will provide them with the opportunity to continue their education,
participate in a variety of trade school opportunities, engage in daily Bible classes, earn a weekly
salary, develop Haitian life skills, and prepare for their future.
Looking at the problems in Haiti as a whole can be intimidating, but focusing on an individual
at the Emmaus House through the sponsorship program can help to change the life of one.

How much does it cost?

Every young adult living at Emmaus House
needs $250 a month for education expenses,
living expenses, medical savings expenses,
and a monthly salary.
Do I have to pay that much to be a sponsor?
No. We need monthly donations of all
amounts. Even though every individual
youth needs $250 a month, we expect each
individual to have multiple sponsors. Every
sponsor counts!
Why do we ask so much more compared to
other child sponsorship programs?
We ask for $250 a month per youth, and we
realize that is a lot compared to most
sponsorship programs which typically
average $25-$50 a month. There are a few
explanations for this:
1. Our youth are older than most in other
child sponsorship programs; therefore,
we need to supply higher education,
more food, and more job training
programs.
2. On a typical $25-$50 a month
sponsorship program, most
organizations average 3-4 sponsors per
child a month in order to make
financial ends meet. We hope to do the
same as well.

The Population Is Young

With a population made up of mostly
young people, the youth are the future of
this country. It is crucial that they are
taught to make good choices, live
independent lives, work hard, be happy
with what they have, and most importantly
live lives that brings glory to God.

Education: $70
$70 a month is designated for education
expenses.
Unlike in America, education in Haiti is
not free. Quite the opposite, it is very
expensive.
In a country where only 23% of the
population is given the opportunity to
graduate from secondary school, your
sponsorship will ensure the continued
education of a bright student with a hope
of a bright future.

of Emmaus House.

Youth Monthly Salary Program: $40

Developing good character, creating strong work

ethic, and teaching the foundations of
financial independence

$40 is allotted towards a potential monthly salary.

The youth have the opportunity to earn this money
through the behavior level system. Weekly they
are graded on their work ethic, participation in
church and devotions, commitment to school, and
personal character. Job opportunities through
Emmaus Works include t-shirt print screening,
sewing, and jewelry making. Since one of the goals
at Emmaus House is to teach the youth to become
independent young adults, the monthly salary
program, in addition to Emmaus Works earnings,
is used to train the youth how to budget the money
they earn for needed items such as transportation,
clothes, shoes, phone minutes, snacks, and any
other wanted items.

Medical Savings: $10

$10 a month is set aside for a medical savings.
These funds are used as needed for medicine,
doctors visits, hospital visits, or other
medical emergencies. Sponsors will be
notified if the youth they sponsor at the
Emmaus House has a medical emergency.

Food, Water & Toiletries: $130

$130 is needed each month for food, clean
drinking water, and toiletries for every
individual living in the Emmaus House.
Vivian Raphael, the Emmaus House mom,
oversees the weekly meals. She also
teaches the youth how to make the weekly
menus, shop at the local market for food,
and cook meals for a family.
Your sponsorship will ensure three
nourishing meals a day, clean drinking
water, and the necessary toiletries for the
individual you sponsor.
