Tuesday May 7th 2013, I did the mineralogy labwork class for the eight term in this semester.
Below was my note of my sulfide-minerals identification :
I identified the mineral sample numbered: M51
The color was grey
The streak was black
The luster was metallic
The hardness was approximately between 2,5 to 3,5 , because the mineral could be scratched by
coin but couldnt be scratched by iron nail
The cleavage was not visible
The fracture was uneven
The diaphenity was opaque
This mineral wa tend to be diamagnetic
The system of the crystal was not visible
Draw here :
After I compared the data that had been taken in labs, I argued that there was galena ore because
of it has the same color and luster with galena.
And, this mineral wass economically valuable because the crystal used to detect the radio signals.
It used in making lead-acid batteries.
This mineral was created in the skarn alteration zones. It was derived from mineral andalusite.
The mineral was formed at a temperature 300C-500C.
After I compared the data that had been taken in labs, I argued that there was iron ore because of
it has the same color and luster with iron.
And, this mineral was economically valuable because it was used in steel production.
There are two formation processes of iron ore. The primary iron ore formation processed were
associated with the magmatism such as gravity settling of iron in the rock dunite. The secondary
iron ore processed are associated with pridotite rocks that have been weathered.
After I compared the data that had been taken in labs, I argued that there similarities on silica
sinter because of it has the same color and luster with silica sinter.
And, this mineral was economically valuable because it is used to describe fine-grained
depositions of material at hot springs and geysers.
This mineral was created from cryptocrystalline quartz and other silica polymorphs that form by
the precipitation of silica at the watery solutions in a layered manner.
After I compared the data that had been taken in labs, I argued that there similarities on black
diamond because of it has the same chemical composition with diamond, but this was a synthetic.
And, this mineral was economically valuable because it is brace and bit used for drilling oil.
This mineral was created from carbon that pressed by a high pressure.
After I compared the data that had been taken in labs, I argued that there similarities on
serpentine because of it has the same color and luster with serpentine.
And, this mineral is economically valuable because it is used for porcelain.
This mineral derived from low-temperature alteration or metamorphism of the minerals in
ultramafic rocks. Moreover, it was formed by the hydrothermal alteration of minerals
ferromagnesian.
