songs
I have a song for you little ones
Hear me sing. Hear my song
I see my own reflection singing in your eyes.
But this song will not be yours
Nor could ever be.
Someday after the world has closed your eyes
You shall awaken and your eyes will blossom
And you will hear a song
That is not mine to sing
But yours.

sing to me
sing to me
said the lake to the bird
and so the bird sang
sing to me
said the grass
and the bird sang
sing to me
said the child
and the bird sang again
that night the bird
returned to his birdhouse
the child had left
after feeding upon
the seeds in the grass
and thirsting the waters
of the lake

when young became old

when young became old
the sky cried a slow tear
as freedom was forgotten
no, old was not defined in years
not counted in measures by the earth circling
the sun
old woke up one day
and only knew it had been conditioned
into something it feared to become
when it was a child
those before me who stood against Vietnam
who now cry to further kill
for our alleged security
and fund more wars with more dollars
my children will be indebted to
and may be elected to fight
when had your stance for peace
been traded for fear of your brothers
and for what, I ask
the world methodically conditions
the mind
youth and freedom will be lost
if one does not hold them dear
when young became old
I would sing to you
I would be the neighbor arriving at your door
only because I want to play
remember my face
we are many and we knock today
as fear can be conditioned
love can be remembered
let us sing together in the rain
4

until blessed does the rain cease

and the warm sun smiles
upon our brow
and once again the truth
of life and freedom shine
and old becomes new again.
Amen

that place of love

there are not enough who will understand these words
but I say them still
for those with memory undimmed
the world once was broken and dark
small rooms with pain
little TVs yell and twisted this little mind
I feared your dark
glee to you
like a puppet did I dangle
no most who walk the earth would know not of
those who encode or those who are impressed upon
so my song still sings
a fragmented mind once broken
now only hurts
but it still smiles and would say
it forgives all even so
that they would at least know
of my heart
even, when my eyes swell
that they too I beckon
to the place of love
from which I still love

Quest to Christ
lo, not with weapons do we walk
but for the case for men
to put them down
those who can no longer hear
the Holy Spirit
is to whom
the carriers were sent
when our brothers who stand
in the middle trusting
the ways of man
speaking nothing
asking nothing
there are those that route
them like cattle into a barn
the answer to their tomorrow
is mind numbing
and technology to electrically
increase control
tell me but one technology
that has not someday been
used against our people
we sit and stare
and deep down tremble of the night to come
no longer would we tremble
for the Word was born
and the Word has remained
and the Word has carried
our hearts unto our Father
one day those still sitting in the middle
too will find themselves prodded
to the wide gate
and the mark upon them will commit
7

a man to become a slave

or believe they can own another man
the choice is the same
for both are but a lie
no man may own another
no man may take the fruit he grows upon his lot
and make weapons turned against the very grower
with no consent
they may try and do these wicked things
yet the Golden Rule remains
the thief can take all the eyes can see
but cannot deceive soul
of Christ
for that is all we have
and Amen, as blessed
that the truth of what we are
is enough
Amen and in Christ

tending (verse 2)
like a cell tending
to the blood
and an organ tending
to the body
that a body can tend
to the earth
as a bird
would so perfectly
sing to the sweet dawn
and like the smallest atom
would be the earth
both orbiting around
a system so vast in size
and on and on
these little eyes look out
in amazement and wonder
for now let me be this body
let me breath this air
and let me sow my life
lo, Father,
lo, Mother,
who rest in me as the same in God of love
as all those who stand beside you
the many souls my feet stand strong
in Jesus name
let us hear the song
is not about us
let us hear
the song
is about who we bring to you
as so many do not know your love
nor your Name
let us not be only fishers of men
but let us make them too
9

and tonight we will

smile
upon this small
fishing rock
Amen

10

docility
that which would be necessary
for the law of man to replace
the law of truth
would only be compliance
as our mind can rationalize
the ways of power
and apathy
would return
let the sheep be sheep
and both from pressure
and technologies we do not know of
smite
but when we lie down
alone in our bed
if we would ask
we will feel the pain of our silence
we will see eyes of children
suffering
and we will find ourselves
believing we can change nothing
when we stand again
there comes a point
where freedom is not about us
for it is us
who are free
and no longer is even this enough
so let the words of our heart
not be trapped before they are released
from our mouth
all men stand for something
accept the words of no man
until they are judged before your own heart
in silence beside
the ocean of Love
11

no docility is not enough

and in the casting of our nets
more will soon be
fishers of men
In Christ and Amen

12

in-between the world and peace

if one reads words like these
and some days has their heart opened
and other days only wishes to run
fear not
as we take steps to what is most dear
we too will lose pieces we once believed
and there is a great struggle
along the road we walk
so many days we will wish to turn back
but we feel so stripped
we know we can never fit in and see
the world the same
I am one of many along your road
believe me my brother I know
of the battle you face
I am drumming and chanting your name
and you will know me as
I know you
if these words even make sense
blessed in Christ's name
who stands within us all
and yes, what we once knew
will be left behind
yet the glory of what we discover
to this,
Amen

13

risen rainbows
they said it was like a rainbow
streaming colors with gold on the end
as I graced my steps in search of it all
slowly the sky turned dark
and the colors shaded to grey
I could not tell you when
the walk had changed
I can only tell you the moment I sought
the wonderful colors of the sky
did they somehow appear
as if they had never left
only to brush sweetly upon my face
again

14

the outrage of time

and swells of the sea
that they were not understood
nor sought
as Christ said God was
for both the Jew and the Gentile
too would all men have the same
Father
and as a being
however haughty we look upon
creatures living by our side
our bodies come from
the same Mother
some believe in many gods
and are told nothing is greater than
seeking the mystery of whatever
they call life
when one stands firmly before
and tells nothing but the truth
from time to time will be accused
of arrogance
the truth need not attempt to be humble or proud
it is simply correct
if from the mouths of a man
come the words of truth
that they are love
and can but extend it
that no terms of time as we know it
movement of earth or its creatures
or threats by a man
could alter that natural truth
let it shine
and call it as you may
my dream is for men not
to lie alone at night
15

and wonder what is out there

and fear what they believe
they have done
my dream for you is peace
always
and I dream it as not one
but one of many
would you guard your mouth
and not steal more than you are meant to have
from your Mother?
would you quiet and ask
how you would come to know the truth
of what you are?
for if we do these things
it is not a belief but a fact
the Mother walks with us as do all her creatures
and our Father comes to us and opens our heart
and our dark dreams once dreamed alone
vanish
in silence do we surrender
even to one minute of time
the blessing of memory
is all we would ask
our bodies will be renewed unto our youth
as we learn Her laws
our spirit will sour and fear will cease
as we realize we are not alone
in Christ
Amen

16

come to me
notes of the harp dance
across the sky and carry the sea
words of the wind fill
tired hearts full of golden peace
come to me
awake, asleep, in seeking, and most of all
when I have forgotten
come to me in hints that tear the engaged mind
from a reality I only dance in
for the end of all nights does come
come to me
as to what has remained before the beginning
and lasted since the end
of what only the body could fear
ohh the sweetness
like the first sip of water as I imagine true thirst
and the next embrace of my earth father
after too many years of waiting for his smile
these things too shall we archive
together, not just me, not just him
but all of us
into the great annuals of memory we will share
what could come that could not leave
nothing outside would be possible
thus the Father remains
only the child
would see the flicker
alone by a river
and together in thousands
may we see,
come to me,
come to us,
In Christ
Amen

take this small poem

in the dark of night under rainfall
we would say our sweet but sad goodbye
not knowing the amount of time nor if ever
would we smile together again
if you told me as a child fishing with my father
was the last time we laughed together
I may have not seen life as it was
for a while more
as the rain falls and hides the wetness of our eyes
the frustration of being human
so I would hand you this one poem in meager attempt
our words could never represent the thing
they are meant to speak of
telling you of a horse could never touch
the raw beauty and power of the creature in my mind
and then the horse itself, what we see as the physical thing
could never represent the beauty of its creator
the breath of life sparking through we then only can only stare
now twice removed from the very word
and so when I tell you I love you
that I would suffer or die only so you would find peace
so you would have your heart filled with laughter and love
the truths my little words alone could barely touch
take this small poem
and may it not speak to you of me
but of what we share
take this one poem
and know of all the things my words
could never seem to get quite right
of all the things of the world
that made me reach out to hand you this
and stopped me from exploding from this meager body
and into you in love
18

just know that even when the rain bleeds the ink
and in time the page is nothing more than a distant question of sanity
just know as best you can
I am with you always
In Christ and with Peace
