12TH PHILIPPINE ELECTRICAL CODE QUIZ SHOW

R U L E S A N D R E G U L AT I O N S
ELIGIBILITY
1. Only schools with duly recognized IIEE student chapters are eligible to participate in the 12th
Philippine Electrical Code Quiz Show.
2. Each chapter may have a maximum of five (5) and a minimum of three (3) team players, one (1) team
captain and four (4) or two (2) team members.
3. Two (2) teams may be allowed to represent one school considering that each team is exclusively
constituted by students with the same degree or course, either Electrical Engineering or Electrical
(Engineering) Technology, respectively.
4. Each member of the team must:
a) Be enrolled in BSEE, BSET, or BSEET course and registered IIEE active student members in the
school they represent;
b) Be from any year level;
c) Not be a present elected or previous officer of the IIEE-Council of Student Chapters.

APPLICATION
1. Properly filled out application forms shall be submitted to the IIEE National Headquarters. Deadline of
submission will be on November 19, 2014, 5:00 PM. Application documents may be sent via (a) Mail,

2. A Certification from the Dean of the College indicating that each member is currently enrolled in the
BSEE, BSET, or BSEET course and a Letter of Approval of the Adviser shall also be attached.

REGISTRATION
(Prior to the day of the event)
Each team must pay a registration fee of P 2,240.00 for the PECQS to IIEE National Office, through the
Council of Student Chapters (CSC), on/or before the deadline.

On-site applications will not be entertained.
Teams must register only during the time allotted by the Council. Registrations afterwards will not be

CONDUCT OF THE QUIZ SHOW


Elimination Round
Only top 20 schools shall be allowed to participate in the Quiz Show. In case that more than 20 schools
register, an elimination round will be conducted before the quiz show proper. The elimination round
shall be a written examination composed of 20 questions to be answered only by the team captain and
two (2) team members individually. The sum of individual scores of each team member shall determine
who will advance to the quiz show proper.
Quiz Show Proper
1. The competing group shall be asked the same set of questions. Answers must be written down on
the transparency, which will be provided by the Council. After the allotted time has expired, the
bell/buzzer shall ring and the usherettes will collect the transparencies. The answer of each group
will be shown to the audience one at a time through an overhead projector.
2. Only the team captain and two (2) team members shall be allowed to participate in any round.
Substitutes shall only replace team members. Substitutions may be permitted only after each
round, no substitutions will be allowed once the round has started.
3. Teams will be allowed to bring pencils, pens, and non-programmable calculators (with no built in
scientific constant. Please see attached document for the list of allowed calculators.) Teams will
not be permitted to bring any paper on stage. Scratch papers shall be provided by the Council.
4. The Quiz Show has three (3) rounds ROUND 1, ROUND 2, and ROUND 3.
Each round is composed of seven (7) questions for a total of twenty (21) questions.
All questions during the Quiz Show will be based on the latest edition of Philippine Electrical
Code Part 1 (PEC 1, 2009 Edition).
The questions will be picked out randomly. These questions may be on identification, multiple
choice, or problem solving type.
Easy Questions have credits of one (1) point each, Average Questions have credits of three (3)
points each, while Difficult Questions have credits of five (5) points each. Scores accumulated in
Round 1 will be carried over up to Round 3.
The winning teams will be determined from the total scores of the three (3) rounds.
5. Before the start of the each round, the QUIZMASTER must check if all the teams can adequately see
the screen and hear the QUIZMASTER.
6. Teams can start solving the problem at the moment the QUIZMASTER starts reading the questions.

7. The QUIZMASTER shall announce the allotted time given to participating teams for each question.
Each question will be read twice. The QUIZMASTER shall announce the start of the allotted time by
saying, TIME STARTS NOW . When the allotted time has elapsed, the QUIZMASTER shall
announce, TIME IS UP. The answer sheets must immediately be raised. A team that will fail to
raise / give its answer after the announcement of TIME IS UP is deemed to have given an
incorrect answer.
8. Any complaint and/or protest regarding the score tally, questions, or answers must immediately be
raised before the succeeding question is read; otherwise the complaints will not be entertained.
9. Only Team Captains have the right to raise questions or complaints. The Board of Judges will resolve
complaints during the conduct of the Quiz Show to the Team Captain only.
10. In case of tie, a Sudden Death Round will be given. Teams competing on this round will be asked
one (1) additional question until the tie breaks. Only the three team members who have
participated in the third round shall proceed to this round. Each question in this round weighs one
(1) point each. Each question will be picked up randomly.
11. Top 3 teams, the Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up, will be awarded with trophies
and medals at the conclusion of the quiz show.
12. Any act of derogatory to the PHILIPPINE ELECTRICAL CODE QUIZ SHOW (PECQS), Board of Judges
(BOJ), Student Affairs Committee (SAC) and IIEE shall be dealt with corresponding penalties to be
decided and imposed by the IIEE / BOJ / SAC. The penalties shall range from disqualification with
the current PECQS to one (1) year suspension of application for the said event.
