INTRODUCTION:
SANDHANIYA:
Here sandhaniya means wound healers.The drugs which helps in the
process of wound healing are known as Sandhaniya dravyas.They are
Madhuka,Madhuparni,Prsniparni,Ambasthaka,Samanga,Mocarasa,Dhataki,Lodhra
,Priyangu,Katphala.
In wounds pitha vitiation takes place.which inturn causes pain and burning
sensation. These sandhaniya dravyas possessing kashaya,madhura,tikta
properties helps in wound healing.
According to modern,Wound refers to injury which damage the dermis of skin
which is torn or punctured.

PRISHNIPARNI

Botanical Name: Uraria picta


Family: Fabaceae
Botanical Description:
Usually found in dry grass lands ,waste places and open deciduous forests.
A suffruiticose herb.
Stem: Downy with hooked hairs.
Leaves: Immparipinate,lanceolate,acute,base rounded.
Flowers: pink or purple.
Fruit: Pods 4-6 jointed,glabrous.
Fruting and Flowering: July-December.
Seeds: Ovate,light brown reniform.
Useful parts: Root,leaf,pod.
Properties:
Rasa: Madhura,tikta.

Guna: Laghu,snigdha

Virya: Ushna
Vipaka: Madhura
Karma:Vatahara,nadibalya,trishnashamaka,anulomana,grahi,hridya,vrishya,

Contains amino acids,fatty acids. It is an antidote to Snake bite.

AMBASTHAKI

Botanical Name: Cissampelos pareira.


Family: Menispermaceae.
Botanical name:
It is a perennial climber.
Leaves: Pellate or orbicular reniform or ovate to sub-reniform,with a truncate
cordate base
Flowers: Greenish yellow. Males in axillary,fascicled,pilose cymes or panicles.
Female: in 6-15 cm long pendulous racemes bearing large reniform or orbicular
bracts.
Fruits: Drupes, small, ovord subglobose obovoid.
Seed: Horse-shoe shaped.
Useful part: Root, leaf.
Properties:

Doshaghnata-Tridoshashamaka, especially Kapha pitta shamaka.

SHALMALI
Botanical name: Salmalia Malabarica
Family name: Bombacea
Botanical Description:
A deciduous tree, upto 30 m tall,
Bark: Grey, covered with black conical priekles
Leaves: Digitate , crowded at the ends of branches leaflets 5-7, elliptic lanceolate
at ovate lanceolate glabourous 5-23*1.5-9cm, petioles long petiolules.
Flowers: Bright red, crowded at the end of branches 8-14cm across appearing
before new leaves.
Capsules: woody, ellipsoid, 10- 12cm long, 5valved.
Seed: Embedded in white, silk cotton, ovoid.
Parts used: Root, gum, bark, leaf, flower, young fruit and seed.

Leaves: Simple, Opposite leaf, 7- 22cm long, ovate/ovate lanceolate, acuminate
Base: cuneate/rounded, upper surface wrinkled, glabrate, white tomentose
beneath with compound stellate with compound stellate hairs.Flowers: Small,
pink/rose coloredFruit: Succulent, Globose, white, containing four seeded nutters.

Botanical name: Symplocos racemosa


Family name: styraceae/symplocacea
Botanical description: A small evergreen tree upto 6m tall bark dark grey rough.
Leaves: Elliptica oblong / elliptic lanceolate serrulate or obscurely crenate ,
rarely entire, glabarous and dark green above.
Flowers: white fading yellow in simple axillary racemose.
Fruit: Drupes, oblong, 1- 1.3cm long, purplish black when ripe crowned with
persistent calyx.
Useful part: Bark

Perennial herb grows upto 4m height.
Leaves: Leaves are rough,arranged in whorl of four per node,oval to heart
shaped with long stalk
Flowers:Green coloured with dichasialcyme,small with pale yellow petals
Fruit:Oval shaped ,fleshy drupe,in ripen state it is dark purple colour

with succulent stem and papery bark.
FLOWERS:
Small, yellow or greenish- yellow, axillary and terminal racemes or
racemose panicles, male flowers clustered, fema;es solitary.
FRUITS:
Drupes ovoid or sub globose, glossy, red, pea sized.

SEEDS:
White, bean shaped, warty.
PARTS USED:
Root, stem, leaves and satva(starch).

Flowers: Light blue to violet,1.0-1.5cm long are resembling sweet pea
flowers in shape. flowers are held in loose, conical spines.
Fruits: Pods, reddish brown,1-3cm long containing 2-5 brown to
blackish seeds

racemose, axillary, bearing about 25 flowers
