COMM; Reporter When you can heat up a meal 00:00
in under a minute, why waste your time and
00:05
money cooking a propa slap up meal?!

COMM; Reporter Its been proven that a tenth

of us students dont make any of our own food,
and 29% of us miss dinner at least once a week?

00:06
00:11

COMM; Reporter We all know that instant

meals are easy and affordable, but what if there
was a way you can have a decent meal for a
student price everyday of the week? Im here to
help you make meals your mum would be proud
of! Heres me earlier getting the ingredients...
COMM; Reporter - Im here outside Lidl, one of
the most affordable supermarkets with great
value. Of course being a student Im on a tight
budget, so with just 5 per day lets see what we
can get!

M/S; SEQ; Dave. GRAPHICS; DIY Kofta

taram masala, 1 tablespoon of chilli
sauce, 2x tomatoes, a red onion.

COMM; Reporter - So Ive just finished shopping

and bought food for myself and 3 of my flat
mates. It all came to just under 40, which is just
under a tenner each! Not bad going, now lets get
back and see whats on the menu

00:45
00:50

COMM; Reporter - As you can see, weve got

your basics like pasta, eggs, sauces, chicken,
lamb, bacon and so on. So what will we be
making?
COMM; Reporter So Ive done a little research
and came across a meal which is your closest bet
to a takeaway kebab. Its called a Kofta burger, a
lamb based kebab with a little spiced kick,
served in a pita bread with onion and tomatoes.

00:51
00:56

COMM; Reporter Why bother getting a

takeaway when it takes around 20 minutes to
cook and 20 minutes to prep?
COMM; Reporter All you have to do is to grab
your mince, onion, garlic, chili sauce and taram
masala and mix it all together, forming it into
around 8 burgers.

cabbage, red onion and garlic.

tablespoons of tomato & chilli sauce,
175g of spinach leaves, 300g of baby
mushrooms, 50g of parmesan, 4
medium eggs.
30 Minute preparation, 20 minute
cooking.
SEQ; Showing Dave making the pizza
base, putting eggs in the spinach,

COMM; Reporter Once youve prepared them,

simply grill for around 5 minutes then voila,
serve on a platter to share and help yourself to
pitta bread, tomatoes and red onions.

01:21
01:27

COMM; Reporter And there you have it, you

can cook all of this for 11.19, which is just 2.79
each for 4 of you! This doesnt even include all
the leftovers which you get, and if youre not
cooking all of the meat, you can freeze it for
another day.

01:28
01:35

COMM; Reporter Now for your vegetarian

01:35
option, we have a Florentine pizza. But instead of 01:41
buying a ready made pizza base, Im gonna show
you how to make it yourself.

COMM; Reporter So first of all you need to

make your pizza base. You can make the base

sprinkling cheese, putting into oven,

adding toppings, etc.

plus the sides. Ingredients: Whole
chicken (1.65kg), 2 tablespoons of
vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1
teaspoon of pepper, 3 teaspoons of
mixed herbs, 1 can of beer. For
wedges, 1kg of red potatoes, 25g
butter, 1 tablespoon of curry powder.
For salad, salt & ground pepper, 3
tablespoons of oil, 2 garlic cloves, 1
pounds of runner beans, 2 small red
onions.
Prep: 30 minutes.
Cook: 1hr 15 minutes.

depending on how hungry you are, but not too

big otherwise it wont fit in your oven! Once
youve rolled your base, microwave the spinach
for 2 minutes. Then scatter the spinach and
mushrooms across the pizza base, sprinkling
parmesan on top. Once baked for 10 minutes,
make a whole in the spinach for the eggs, then
cook until the eggs are how you like them.
COMM; Reporter There we go, nice and
healthy! And this is only 8.31 in total or 2.08
each!
COMM; Reporter Now this is one of my
personal favorites, something a little more
creative. Its a beer can chicken, served with
potato wedges and a runner bean salad.
Something perfect for gatherings, and if you
dont eat all the chicken you can save it for
another day.

SEQ; M/S; Dave with food around him.

Coverage of all the food together,
PANNING showing the salad, wedges
and chicken. Show how to cut the
chicken and remove from beer can.

COMM Reporter; Firstly well start off with the

chicken. Remove the neck and giblets from the
chicken and rinse it inside and out. Then rub it
with oil, salt, pepper and your mixed herbs. Now
this is where you grab your beer (it can be any,
whatever works for you), drink about half of it
then gently place the chicken on top of the beer.
Shove it in your oven for an hour and 15 minutes
then let it cook, until the thigh juice runs clear.
COMM Reporter; Whilst you wait for this to
cook, you can prepare your wedges and salad.
For the wedges, cut the potatoes into wedges
shape then let them boil for 5 minutes. Mix the
butter with the spice then add to the wedges
once youve drained them. Allow them to cook
for around 20 minutes.
COMM Reporter; And now for the runner
beans and onion salad. Prepare a large bowl of
boiling salted water and ice bowl of water. Then
get another bowl adding in all your ingredients.
Cook your beans for about 3 minutes, then
transfer to the ice bowl immediately. Grill your
onion with vegetable oil and seasoning then add
together.
COMM Reporter; And theyre we have it! A
huge and inventive meal if youve got some spare
time or in need food for a party. And the price?
Well its 13.36 in total, which works out to be
around 3.34 each!
