PART A
Q. 1 M.V. Hindship displacing 9540 tonnes and trimmed 0.78 m by the stern is to be
dry docked for bottom inspection . KG: 7.826 m , FSC : 0.164 m. Calculate:
a) The GM ( Fluid) of the vessel before entering dry dock.
b) The virtual GM of the vessel when her keel takes the blocks all along the length
of the vessel.
c) The fore and aft draft , at which the virtual GM of the vessel becomes zero.
(Hindship problem 95 on Pg 166 GMF- 0.98m, Vir.GM- 0.886/ 0.866
F&A Draft- 4.236/ 4.252 m)

Q. 2 The end bulkhead of a part deep tank 8m in height which Is bound on the inbound
side by the ships center line longitudinal bulkhead and on the outboard side by the
ships side, has the following equally spaced horizontal ordinates, commencing from
the top of the bulkhead.6.6m, 5.9m, 4.8m, 3.4m and 1.8m. Calculate the area of the
bulkhead and the position of its centroid from the bottom of bulkhead.
(stability by C L Dubey example 7 pg 27) area 36.8 m2 from Bottom- 4.71m)
Q. 3 A vessel of L = 140m, W= 16000t, MCTC=190 t-m, TPC= 24 t, LCF = 72m,
KM=8.20m, KG = 7.20m, FSM = 137 mt, Draft Fwd = 6.68m and draft Aft = 8.84m
grounds on an isolated rock. The drafts then are fwd 5.88 and aft 9.28m.
Calculate.
(i) The up thrust provided by the rock.
(ii) The Position with respect to after perpendicular, where the grounding occurred.
(iii) The virtual GM (Fluid) of the vessel then.
(iv) The rise in tide, required for the vessel to refloat.
(stability by C L Dubey example 4 pg 134 i- 477.6t ii- 121.33m from AP
iii- GMF-0.667m iv- 63.59cm)
Q. 4 (a) sketch and label a transverse watertight bulkhead.

(b) Describe the importance and location of collision bulkheads.

Part B
Q. 5 A ship leaves the port in upright condition. During the voyage. She is listed to a
starboard by 40. Discuss, the probable causes of the list and the corrective measures
requires to be taken.
Q. 6 Write short notes on the following.
(a) Tungsten Inert Gas Welding.
(b) Electric arc welding
(c) Residual stresses in welding process
Q. 7 (a) Discuss the changes brought in shipping due to harmonized system of
survey and certification.
(b) with reference to Enhanced Survey Programme , describe the following:(i) Substantial corrosion.
(ii) Close up examination.
Q. 8 describe the effect of the Beam and Freeboard on the stability of a vessel.
Q. 9 Explain, how corrosion is controlled on board the ship by following preventive
measures :(i) Design methods
(ii) Protective coating
(iii) Cathodic protection
