PART 2: Brief about Training Programme


Name: Special International Programme on Small Business Planning and Promotion
for Colombo Plan Secretariat.
Small Business today, has assumed extreme significance in the development,
planning of any countrys economy. Besides adding to GDP, small business has
great potential to fight successfully the universal and acute problem of
unemployment and to assist in maximizing use of local resources. In many
developing countries small business planning and Promotion amongst potential
entrepreneurs has now been develop professionally. This requires skills for
sensing appropriate business opportunities, indentifying projects based on market
survey, perceiving and mobilizing resources, preparation of project report,
technology evaluation and finally meeting formalities needed in setting up of small
business enterprise.
These small business opportunities require appraisal by the entrepreneur from his
perspective as well as that of the banker and support agencies to ensure supply of
funds and other inputs. Such planning skills are often found lacking among small
business entrepreneurs.
In India, for effective planning and promotion of small business, several tools,
techniques, methods and approaches, instruments and exercises have been
evolved and tested in actual field conditions. Such rich experiences of five
decades have been gathered in developing small business through massive
nationwide programmes. On an average half a million youths are being developed
every year to undertake small business as part of self employment and
entrepreneurship development programmes. To share these experiences
internationally NIESBUD offers a three week Special International Programme on
Small Business Planning & Promotion for Colombo Plan Secretariat SBPP CPS.
Objective:
The Programme seeks to:
Learn the use and application of various tools, techniques approach, mobilizing
resources for starting & running a small business.
Understand the practice and use of various methods of seeing small business
opportunities.
Enable preparing project report business plan suitable to business location.

Acquire ability to motivate potential entrepreneurs, planning & promoting small


business.
Develop a plan of action suitable to the respective counties.

Methodology:
The methodology would comprise case studies, role- play, games and exercise,
practice session, individual\group assignments, discussion, implant Study and
interaction with entrepreneurs and officials of the support agencies. A few training
films will be shown to supplement the class work deliberation.

PART 3: Learning Points


Class Room:
After I attended the training programme on Small Business planning and Promotion, I
have gained a lot of key skills and knowledge as follows:
Awareness of entrepreneurship development in current scenario
Learned a basic motivation and excellence for small business by developed their
knowledge on creative, competitive and cost effective.
The technique on project identification and selection, when should be agriculture,
industry/business and service.
The concept of market and marketing and how to developing a global marketing
plan.
Leadership and developing effective team for business growth.
Concepts, principles, tools and approaches for developing SME clusters
Value Chain Identification and Mapping (Value Chain Actors)
Study Visit:

Business Enterprise
- Have learned about stories of factorys owner
- West management by using a recycle system
- Created new thing can put a value added on it.
- Even a small business but can make sustainable income.

Historical Place:
- learned a great stories from each Palace
- High technology may not necessary for sometimes
- When people got a specific target and stick on it, everything might possible

Since I have attended many training courses as I have mentioned earlier, I have gained a
lot of knowledge on tools and technical of how to motivation and facilitation skill as below:
Better understanding on entrepreneurship development,
Concepts, principles, tools and approaches for developing small business
How to write a good project proposal and report.
Self management and skill of learning
Knowledgeable on concept of SME cluster development,
The value chain approach and mapping.
