Lucky Gallery Presents Lucky Gallery Presents

“Anatomically Incorrect”
Brooklyn-area art gallery will be featuring an on-site collaborative drawing installation by Anastasia
Akulinina/Kaerfkrahs, Brian Butler, Downer, Faro, Scott Ferguson, Fish McGill, Maxwell Piersol,
Cardon Webb, and Eunjeong Yoo.

Brooklyn, NY, Dec 29, 2009 - From January 16th to February 7th, Lucky Gallery is pleased to present
“Anatomically Incorrect,” an on-site collaborative drawing installation by artists, Anastasia
Akulinina/Kaerfkrahs, Brian Butler, Downer, Faro, Scott Ferguson, Maxwell Piersol, Cardon Webb, and
Eunjeong Yoo.

These artists who have not worked together before were asked by Laura Arena, the director of Lucky
Gallery to work together conceptually within the walls of the Gallery. Arena’s only instructions were to
come up with a concept that would connect everyone’s work, through style, medium or content.

The artists chose to focus on anatomy, which is a concrete, organized system, which is in contrast to the
chaotic/spontaneous process of this show – the end result leads to figures anatomically incorrect.

"Art has helped me to figure out answers to questions, I have,” says Scott Ferguson. “Although usually
these answers are still vague or ambiguous, and to another person may seem anatomically incorrect, art
collaboration helps me to get closer to answers."

Each artist will work directly on the gallery wall, creating a visual conversation; the alchemy of
characters, text, and pattern will affect how the mural expands as each artist works responsively to the
other.

The idea of this process is taken from the surrealist game, "the exquisite corpse," a method by which a
collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in
sequence – combining various aesthetics. For this exhibition this process should reveal something
"anatomically incorrect".

Exhibition Dates: January 16, 2010 – February 7th, 2010

Opening Reception: January 16, 6-9 PM

Brian Butler
Butler is an avid miniature golf player, and amateur crypto zoologist. Butler’s obsessive interest in
kitschy roadside culture has led him across Massachusetts on an 87-stop tour of every miniature golf
course in the state. His passion for the bizarre has also fueled a worldwide campaign advocating the
existence of the half human, half ice cream hybrid, the Ice Cream Person.

When Butler isn’t on the green, he is on his computer, making graphics for bands. He has had the
pleasure of working for the Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z, Motley Crue, Dropkick Murphys, The Police, Dan
Deacon, Japanther, Lightening Bolt, and Big D and the Kids Table.

Downer Smith
Downer grew up on a steady diet of spray-paint and death metal. He gradually made his way onto the art
scene of upstate New York by his live art shows and gallery exhibits. Desperate for change Downer
moved to and currently resides in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and is trying to stay out of trouble.

Scott Ferguson
Scott Ferguson was born in Denver, Colorado in 1986 and graduated from the Denver School of the Arts
after attending for 7 years. Scott is in his final year at School of Visual Arts in N.Y.C. finishing his

Faro
Hailing from Egypt, FARO has been residing in NYC for 5 years. With a distinct Mummy trademark, he
has steadily been working his way up the ranks of street art.

His work has gained notoriety for his participation in shows such as Urban Mantra, NYC and a solo
show at Pursuit Gallery in Burlington, VT. FARO’s steadily gaining exposure both on and off the streets
and is featured in “Bombin’” magazine (March, 2008) and working with bands such as Ninja Sonik,
Japanther and Horse the Band.

FARO finds inspiration from artists Os Gemeos and KAWS. FARO created the iconic Mummy out of a
love for drawing characters. His icon has taken on metaphorical significance; it is a reflection of his
Egyptian nationality and takes on a playful appearance, mimicking cross-culture ironies and social
issues.
FARO loves painting, as it gives him a vehicle for influencing others and inspiring youth. He currently
works as a graphic designer and illustrator from KR INK, and has an arsenal at his disposal

Fish McGill
Fish McGill prides himself as an artist devoted to drawing. His work uses characters to communicate
and question his involvement in and perception of society. He focuses on robots as literal and
metaphorical machines that convey ideas on what it means to be human.

According to Fish the robots “are each trying to fit in as members of society, beyond their limited
functionality. You could say they’re in over their heads. Everybody can relate to wanting to be part of
the fun or feeling anxious about biting off more than you can chomp.” When asked about the robots
questioning society, he answers “you may think a robot is totally boring at first glance. But then you
hang out and discover you both share an equal love of Prince or something else!”

He has exhibited at the ICA, Worcester Art Museum, LAB, in Massachusetts, as well as in New York,
Montreal, and Japan. Fish’s work has been commissioned professionally by the Institute of
Contemporary Art (ICA), the Berwick Institute, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),
Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Nike, MTV, Deitch Projects, Company One, Harmonix Music
Systems, IdN, Adobe, and The Weekly Dig. Fish earned his BFA in S.I.M. (New Media) from
Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Max Piersol
Max Piersol is a native Red Hook resident. His interest in graffiti started 1 year ago when he was 11
years old. His tags, stencils and wheat pastes can be seen around Red Hook and his work was recently
commissioned by Katie Dixon for her backyard space.

Piersol is also a video artist and his projects can be seen at www.youtube.com/funnyjuggledude.

Cardon Webb
Cardon Webb was born in the desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, but raised in the hills of Boise,
Idaho. He has always had a natural aptitude and passion for perceiving his environment and using his
observations to draw, build, and create. Constantly referencing the world’s ever-evolving environments,
patterns, colors and people, Webb has learned to capture these stimuli and channel them into the
personality and function of his art and design. With a Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Visual
Arts in New York City, he provides an array of services for a broad range of individuals, artists, and
corporate clients, with projects including installations and corporate identity, to book covers and one-of-
a-kind fine art works.

Webb has been selected by established contemporary artists David Salle, Maya Hayuk and Andrew
Schoultz to assist on site-specific art installations and studio projects involving intricate typography and
graphic techniques.
Webb was recently honored with a solo exhibition at the Type Directors Club (TDC) in New York City.
Highlighting his more recent project, Cardon Copy, a visual exploration and hi-jacking of self-
distributed street fliers and tear-offs.

Cardon Webb’s work can be seen here www.cardondesign.com and here www.cardoncopy.com.
