The text for the course is Business Data Communications and


Networking by Jerry Fitzgerald and Alan Dennis, 8th Edition,
2005, John Wiley and Sons.

Course Objectives:

The primary objective of this course is to introduce students to the


fundamental concepts and techniques of data communications and
telecommunications in general. Students will do lexercises and a group
project designed to expand their knowledge and the class's.
Exercises and Exam:

There will be a comprehensive final exam and a mid-term exam. Labs will
be assigned each class. One small-group project will be required which will
culminate in a report and presentation to the class.

Assignments:

Occasional assignments will also be made from the text.

Grading:

Per University policy, attendance is required. Since there are only 10


classes all summer, it is important to attend class and to stay caught
up in reading and assignments.

Class Schedule: (tentative)

The following is a tentative schedule, which I will try to follow as


closely as possible. Should any changes become necessary, I will
announce it in class as well as post it on WebCT via the bulletin
board. It is YOUR responsibility to check for changes at least once a
week. I will not be held responsible if you miss any announcements
regarding changes to schedule and/or deadlines.
