OBAMA FOR AMERICA

Precinct map
When presented with the challenge of making voting as accesible as possible for every
Kent State student, Obama for America wanted to develop one easy-to-understand and
distribute tool. I was asked to find a solution, and ended up with the precinct map below.
The map outlines the many on-campus and near-campus polling locations, as well as their
corresponding locations.
I reviewed the borders with the Deputy Director of the Portage County Board of
Elections and the map was distributed through Facebook, in person and through official
Kent State channels. The map, which was released through the kent.edu website and
Flashline (KSU intranet) email, had a potential audience of more than 26,000 students,
staff members and community members.
The College of Communication and Information dean sent me the letter following.

A HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN

STATES ISSUES PUBLICATION

THERES A LOT OF WORK

LEFT TO DO IN OHIO.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the
largest organization in the United States
working to achieve equality for all lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)
Americans. With its network of 1.5 million
members across the country, the vision for
equality in the U.S. will become reality.
HRC has a multi-pronged approach to
achieve its goal, which consists of state
and federal campaigns. HRC actively works
on ballot referendums, legislation and
court cases.
Many of the wins highlighted to the left
have been are thanks to the efforts of HRC,
but the fight is anywhere from over.
Ohio has some of the toughest anti-LGBT
legislation in the country. Marriage rights
are often at the forefront of the fight, but
ending discrimination based on sexual
orientation and gender identity in schools,
workplaces, apartment complexes,
hospitals and adoption bureaus is also a
major part of HRCs mission.
Theres a lot of work left to do in Ohio,
and through our network of volunteers
and offices in Ohios major metropolitan
centers, the dream equality will be a reality.
