Jack Irish (Guy Pearce) is a man getting his life back together again.
A former criminal lawyer whose world imploded, he now spends his days as
a part-time investigator, debt collector, apprentice cabinet maker, punter
and sometime lover the complete man really. An expert in finding those
who dont want to be found dead or alive, Jack helps out his mates while
avoiding the past. That is until the past finds him.
Jacks world revolves around the racetrack, the local pub and the artisan
woodwork shop where hes apprenticed himself to a master craftsman. But
a phone call from an old client first arouses his curiosity, then preys upon
his sense of justice; and sets Jack on a path which he doggedly pursues.
From bent cops to identical twin thugs, political leaders to investigative
journalists, suddenly everyone seems to want a piece of Jack Irish.
Adapted from the celebrated novels by Peter Temple Bad Debts and
Black Tide - the award-winning Jack Irish books have been acclaimed by
critics; loved for their thrilling storylines, eclectic characters, underlying
humour and most of all for being wonderfully, quintessentially Australian.
The scripts have been written by Andrew Knight (Rake, After the Deluge,
Seachange) and Matt Cameron (Crashburn, Seachange).
Led by Emmy Award winning actor Guy Pearce, an outstanding cast of
Australias best talent feature in the telemovies including Aaron Pedersen,
Marta Dusseldorp, Diana Glenn, Don Hany, Shane Jacobson, Roy Billing,
Colin Friels, Steve Bisley, Damian Richardson, Alexandra Schepisi,
Rhys Muldoon, Martin Sacks, Colin Hay, Emma Booth and international
award-winner, Vadim Glowna.
Produced by Ian Collie of Essential Media and Entertainment (Rake, On Trial), directed by Jeffrey Walker (Angry Boys, Rake) and executive produced by
Andrew Knight, Jack Irish is an Essential Media and Entertainment production for ABC1; financed with the support of Film Victoria, Screen Australia,
ABC Commercial and ZDF Enterprises.

GUY PEARCE

JACK IRISH

Jack Irish is a man getting on with life. After his wife Isabel was killed by an
ex-client, he went on a massive drinking binge trying to obliterate himself.
Thanks to his friends, he didnt quite succeed. Hes given up criminal law
and now spends his time helping out mates. He works for Harry Strang
doing debt collection and helping pull racing stings. He can also be found
in Charlie Taubs cabinetmaking workshop learning to work with wood the
old way. And his home away from home is the Prince of Prussia pub last
bastion of the Fitzroy Football Club, where his old man was a legend.

MARTA DUSSELDORP

LINDA HILLIER

Linda is a newspaper journalist who has sacrificed relationships and intimacy for her career. Smart and dry she is exceptionally good at her job.
Linda has no problem separating sex and love and is disarmingly direct and
pragmatic when shes after the former. She jokes about always falling for
disheveled, burnt out sleaze bags, which explains her instantaneous attraction to Jack who satisfies all the criteria with the exception of sleaze.
To her delight she comes to learn that Jack has a robust, almost oldfashioned moral compass, perhaps more reliable than her own.

AARON PEDERSEN

CAM DELROY

Cam is the sort of guy you want on your side when the shit hits the fan.
Harry Strangs rugged and somewhat enigmatic right hand man is wiry and
agile, doing all the things that Harry cannot or will not do. Cam is handy
with a gun, efficient with his fists, and even better with racing statistics and
horses. He is streetwise and seemingly unflappable under pressure.

ROY BILLING

HARRY STRANG

Once a successful horse trainer, Harry is now a stylish and wealthy racing
personality. Strategic, fair-minded and patient, especially when it comes to
his racing stings, Harry has developed his own morality code over a lifetime
in the racing game and never takes down anyone who doesnt deserve it.

SHANE JACOBSON

BARRY TREGEAR

Barry grew up in the country and retains a disarming comical charm despite
being inherently racist, sexist and every other ist you can think of. Barrys
part of The Old Cullture - old school policing where touching someone up
with a phone book in their cell is considered a public service. Belligerent,
crass, lazy and discontented with his job he seems an unlikely associate for
Jack but their relationship goes back to Jacks first big case as a lawyer.

VADIM GLOWNA

CHARLIE TAUB

Charlie is an artisan cabinetmaker old enough to have invented mortise

and tenon joints. Despite his cultivated grumpiness Charlie has a genuine
paternalistic fondness for Jack, who works for him part-time in exchange
for cabinetmaking lessons. Charlie is less than impressed with the way Jack
earns a living, dismissing gambling and horseracing as surefire routes to
ruin. Proud, frugal, patient and sage he imparts lessons in life to Jack along
with the secrets of woodworking.

PETER TEMPLE

WRITER ( NOVELS )

before he went to Australia in 1980 where he worked for the Australian
Society magazine. He also gave lectures in journalism and media studies at
the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and other universities.
In 1995 he started his own business and began writing crime novels. His
first novel, Bad Debts introduced the private investigator and former lawyer
Jack Irish, which determines in Melbourne. In 1997 he was awarded the
Australian Ned Kelly Award for best first novel. Since then, he writes thrillers featuring Jack Irish and also other investigators. He won the Ned Kelly
Award for Best Novel four more times so far.
Temple's novels are very deeply involved with the Australian community.

Random House found that he was "too Australian". So in 2003 he moved to
an independent publisher from Melbourne, who introduced him successfully
on the international market.
His most successful novel, The Broken Shore (Cold August / 2005) has

In addition to the Ned Kelly Award, and two more general Australian book
prizes, Temple became the first Australian writer to receive the renowned
British Duncan Lawrie Dagger award (Gold Dagger) in 2007. The Broken
Shore is set in rural Australia and takes on the problems of the Australian
Aborigines and the Australian local government.
