Australian Greens Senator for Western Australia

Job Description
The web and new media co-ordinator (WNMC) will be working for Australian Greens
Senator Rachel Siewert to manage and produce external communications for Senator
Siewert and the Greens Senate team, with a specific focus on web and new media
streams and/or graphic design.
The position would suit a recent graduate or student with good web/IT or graphic
design skills and an interest in politics.
The primary responsibility of this role is to support the existing communications staff
and maximise the potential for a range of online communication modes to effectively
promote the work of the Australian Greens Senators in parliament.
The position reports to Senator Rachel Siewert - with oversight provided by Senator
Brown's Senior Media Adviser - and will liaise closely with the Chief of Staff and other
Senate offices.
This position is based in Canberra, joining the Green Senators’ media team. The work
environment is highly dynamic, requiring all media staff to work accurately and
effectively to ensure up-to-the-minute communication of the Green message within
rapidly changing political debates.

Key responsibilities:
Working with the Senior Media Adviser and communications team:
• Website content and design management
• Production of new media/online ads & features
• Management/monitoring of web stats and figures
• Co-ordination of e-list messages/campaigns
• Custom coding of existing websites
• Database development to optimise contact with constituents
• Managing consistency/identity/branding control across all
materials
• Campaign and communication strategy development, with
particular focus on electronic and new media elements;
• Monitoring/management of social network sites, blogosphere and
other campaigns
• Management of internal and external online communications
• Effective liaison with other Greens campaigns and parliamentary
offices around the country, and other duties as directed.
Additional tasks
Graphic design & multimedia skills, including:
• Production of pamphlets, policy documents and other promotional materials
• Advertising/backdrops/posters and other large format materials
• Video shooting/audio recording/photo shooting
• Video/audio/photo editing
• Management, co-ordination and archiving of all images/printed
materials/photos/logos
• Preparing materials for press conferences, community meetings
and events;

SELECTION CRITERIA
• Qualifications in web, graphic design or related communications discipline or
relevant experience;
• Specific web tech, new media and online communications and
campaigns skills;
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Drupal and CiviCRM highly regarded;
• Graphic design skills, including advanced ability on Adobe
software highly regarded;
• Understanding of Australian politics and knowledge of Australian
Greens policies;
• Ability to formulate overarching campaigns that utilise web and
new technologies;
• Strong analytical skills and effective judgement;
• Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication
skills;
• Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict
deadlines, with a minimum of supervision.

The position is classified as Electorate Officer Band A under the Members of Parliament
(Staff) Act 1984 with conditions outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament
Staff Collective Agreement 2006-2009. A salary of between $41, 419 - $48,404 p.a. will be
offered. An allowance in lieu of overtime of $3,276 p.a. applies and there is also
generous employer-funded superannuation for this position.
This position requires some weekend and out-of-hours work. A probationary period of
3 months will apply. Occasional travel to the electorate office in Perth may be required
from time to time.
