SAFETY DATA SHEET

1 - IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION AND OF THE COMPANY
IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION

ANODISATION SULFURIQUE S2 (code 10055)

or

S2 SULPHURIC ANODISING

USE OF THE PREPARATION

This solution is used for anodising aluminium parts locally, using the selective brush plating process or the Dalistick tool.
These electrolysis processes (brush or DALISTICK) can be applied locally, i.e. without immersion of the part, just where it
is necessary. Thus, only small quantities of solutions are stored or used.
With the DALISTICK, the solution circulates in a closed loop without flowing on the area to be treated.

4 - FIRST AID MEASURES

CONTACT WITH SKIN
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash immediately with plenty of water for 10 to 15 minutes. Dont hesitate to
take a shower. In all cases, dont try to neutralize with bases and dont apply any cream. If an irritation appears or if the
contamination is large or in case of prolonged contact, seek medical advice.
CONTACT WITH EYES
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for approximately 15 minutes. Always call an ophthalmologist.
INHALATION
Theoretically, not applicable. Under abnormal conditions of use causing considerable inhalation, remove the casualty
from the contaminated area, let him take a rest in a well-ventilated room and seek medical advice. A delayed pulmonary
oedema may appear. A clinical, biological and radiological supervision and a treatment may be necessary in that case.
INGESTION
Dont try to induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. Transfer quickly into hospital. Complications may appear later.
PROTECTION OF THE FIRST-AIDERS
Wear gloves and according to the situation: glasses, clothes and protective shoes, a mask.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
5 - FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Dry ice, powders.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA WHICH SHALL NOT BE USED
Water.
SPECIFIC HAZARDS
Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or soil.
Dangerous thermal decomposition products: in particular, vapours of sulphur oxides and oxygen. Hydrogen evolution is
possible.
PROTECTION OF THE FIRE-FIGHTERS
Because of the substances produced during thermal decomposition, use approved self-contained breathing equipment
and protective clothing in case of intervention.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid contact with skin and eyes: wear gloves, glasses, overalls and safety boots. In case of contact, dispose of all
contaminated clothing and shoes and wash thoroughly in water.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Do not allow the product to be thrown away. Recover as much as possible for processing within the firm or by an
approved centre.
METHODS FOR CLEANING UP
With water to remove all non-recoverable product. Before throwing rinsing water, check the pH is between 5.5 and 8.5.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING
Use as supplied. Close containers (in PE) tightly after use with the original cap. Do not re-use containers with another
product.
STORAGE
Store in a room on a spill-retaining vat away from alkaline or reducing products, metals and flammable compounds. Keep
in original containers only, between 5 and 30C if possible away from direct sun-light. The maximum recommended shelf
life is three years from the date of manufacture under normal conditions of storage.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
EXPOSURE CONTROLS
TECHNICAL MEASURES
No drinking, eating or smoking on the workplace.
Maintain the premises and the workplace in a perfect state of cleanliness and clean them frequently.
As the product is used at ambient or cold temperature during a short time, the values below are generally not reached.
They depend on the treatment time, the surface area treated and on the quality of the workshop air extraction.

Limit value (15 min) = 3 mg/m
(INRS file ND 2098)
Not applicable

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Provide a shower, a powerful tap and sink unit and an eye basin near the workplace.
Respiratory protection: during brush electrolysis, provide as far as possible an inhaling of the sprays / vapours where
they are created and extraction out of the premises. Or work in a ventilated room and wear if necessary a filtering
FFP3 mask (EN 149:2001 standard) or a E2P3 cartridge (EN 405:2002 standard).
During electrolysis with the DALISTICK tool, these measures are not necessary, work taking place in a closed loop.
Hand protection: wear imperatively gloves (in nitrile, neoprene or PVC).
Eye protection: wear imperatively glasses with lateral protections or a facial screen. Do not wear contact lenses.
Skin protection: wear overalls and safety boots.

9 - PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
-

Appearance: colourless liquid.

Odour: odourless.
pH: <1.
Relative density: 1.16.
Solubility: miscible in water in all proportions.
Boiling point: approximately 100C.
Crystallisation / melting point: < 0C.
Flammability: nil.
Oxidising properties: nil.
Danger of fire or explosion: no, but the product can be a secondary source of fire or explosion, for example following
its action on metals (if large quantities of hydrogen are produced in a small space). It can also react vigorously with
some compounds (see section 10) especially in a concentrated or dehydrated state.
Other properties: not applicable.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
STABILITY
Good at ambient temperature with water evaporation for only risk. Good in humidity and light.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID
High temperatures: decomposition of some constituents from 290C.
MATERIALS TO AVOID
Notably bases, reducing products, metals (notably in powder), flammable or organic compounds, carbides, chlorates,
chromates, permanganates, nitrates, fulminates, cyanides
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS
Fumes containing in particular oxides of sulphur (from 290C) and oxygen (above 450C).
________________________________________________________________________________________________
11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
No data are available regarding the preparation. The evaluation of health hazards has been realised thanks to
directives 67/548/EC, 1999/45/EC and bibliographical data.
SKIN, EYE MUCOSA, IN CASE OF INGESTION
Serious burns following a short contact (less than 3 minutes). Skin damages in its whole depth and disabling after-effects
of eyes are possible. Bloody vomiting, ulcerations and haemorrhages in case of ingestion with risk of delayed
complications in the following days. The gravity depends on the length of contact before treatment and on the applied
quantity.
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Theoretically, not applicable: little sprays during brush electrolysis and very little sprays with the DALISTICK.
Under abnormal situation, exposure to weak or to moderate concentrations of sprays gives a slight irritation of the
superior respiratory system, or even an acceleration of the respiratory rhythm.
Exposure to high concentrations induces an intense irritation with pains and cough. After exposure, in case of massive
inhalation, a delayed pulmonary oedema may appear with risk of bacterial infection. Finally, after treatment, the
respiratory and ocular after-effects are generally small.
OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES: no (in FRANCE).
