AccordingtotheQur'an,GodhadalreadydecidedbeforethecreationofAdamthatmankind(Adamandhis
progeny)wouldbeplacedonearth.Islamdoesnotascribemankind'slifeonearthasapunishment,rather
aspartofGod'splan.
GodsaystotheangelsintheQur'an(2:3033):Verily,Iamgoingtoplacemankindgenerationsafter
generationsonearth.They(theangels)said:WillYouplacethereinthosewhowillmakemischieftherein
andshedblood,whilewe(theangels)glorifyYouwithpraisesandthanksandsanctifyYou.Godsaid:I
knowthatwhichyoudonotknow.
ItisevidentfromtheaboveversesintheQur'anthatGodhadalreadydecidedbeforethecreationofAdam,
thatmankindwouldbelivingouttheirlivesonearth.AndinspiteoftheangelsremarkthatAdamwouldbe
acreationthatwouldcarryoutalotofactionsagainstGod'slaws.GodsaysthatHeknowsAdambetter
thandotheangels.
GodthenteachesAdamthenamesofallthingsandassemblestheangelsinfrontofAdamsoastoshow
themthatthereismoretoAdamthantheyknow,particularlythehighintellectualcapacityofAdam:
"AndHetaughtAdamthenamesallofthem.ThenHeshowedthemtotheangelsandsaid,"InformMeof
thenamesofthese,ifyouaretruthful."Theysaid:"GlorytoThee(saidtheangels),ofknowledgeWehave
none,savewhatThouHasttaughtus:IntruthitisThouWhoartperfectinknowledgeandwisdom."He
said:"OAdam!Tellthemtheirnames."Whenhehadtoldthem,Godsaid(totheangels):"DidInottell
youthatIknowthesecretsofheavenandearth,andIknowwhatyerevealandwhatyeconceal?"
FromtheaboveversesitisclearthatGodissayingthatwhileitmaybetruethatmanmightbeabletodo
allthebadthingsthattheangelssaid,theangelsoverlookedmanshighintellectualcapacitythathecould
usetoactotherwise(bydoinggood).
Fromthere,theQur'anintroducesSatan(knownbythenameofIblis).AccordingtotheQur'an,Iblis,who
wasnotanangelbutajinni,wasamongsttheassemblyofangelsduetohishighrank.Accordingtothe
Qur'anangelsaremadefromlight,whilejinnaremadefromsmokelessfire.
Godcommandstheangels(Iblisbeingamongthem)tobowdowntoAdam.Andtheyalldo,exceptfor
Iblis,whofeelsthathebeingmadefromfire,shouldnotbebowingtoAdamwhowasmadefromearth.His
