PROCEDURE

All the equipments needed were set up before starting the experiment.
4.0

DC Power Supply & Digital Multimeter

a) The DC power supply was turn on. The reading for minimum and maximum voltage and
current were recorded in the table.
b) The voltage for CH 1 was set to 5V. The digital multimeter was turned on and is set to
direct voltage (V=). The range button was pressed a few times until the direct voltage range
shown a suitable reading. The voltage for CH 1 was checked by connecting the red output
connector to the red multimeter terminal and black output connector to black multimeter
terminal.
c) The voltage for CH 1 was set to 10.5V. The multimeter was set up to check the direct
current (mA). The range button was pressed a few times until it reaches the appropriate
range. The output switch was turned on. The currentt for CH 1 was checked.

Resistance, Voltage and Current Measurement

a) Any power in the circuit was disconnected to be measured.

b) Leads positive and negative/ground terminals were connected at the digital multimeter
(DMM). It is best to measure resistance before placing a resistor or component in a circuit.
c) 2W was selected (two-wire resistance measurement).
d) Manual ranges of 100 , 1k , 10k , 100k , 1 M , or 100M was selected. Manual
ranges will allow us to choose the range of measurements, which might be helpful in certain
situation.
e) 5 different resistors that we had on the table were measured and te expected and
measured resistance values were listed.
f) For voltage-drop measurment, DMM probes were placed parallel to the target
component.
g) For current measurement, DMM probes were placed in-between (bridging) two points.

The Oscilloscope & Function Generator

Observe sine wave signal using Channel-1

a) The oscillocope was power on and the confirmation was waited. English language were
selected. Then button was pressed to go to main menu.

b) CH1 probe tip was connected to output probe from function generator and alligator clip
with black clip respectively.
c) The function generator was set to 1.0kHz signal with sine waveform.
d) Autoset button was pressed.
e) CH1 signal values were observed and recorded.
f) Autoset button was pressed again.
g) Acquire button was presssed. Side screen button was pressed to select average.

CONCLUSION

In this experiment, we have learnt about the utilization of DC power sources and also
measuring equipment. We are also required t understand the utilization and application of
measuring equipment. There are many equipment that we need to use in this experiment.
For measuring equipment, we used digital multimeter and oscilloscope while for power
sources we used DC power supply and function generator.
Through this experiment, we knew the function and how to use that equipment. For
example, the multimeter. A multimeter is a devise used to measure voltage, resistance and
current in electronics & electrical equipment. It is also used to test continuity between to
two points to verify if there is any breaks in circuit or line. Next is osilloscope. An
oscilloscope function is to provide a graph of a signal's voltage over time. This is useful for
measuring things as clock frequencies, propagation delay, or signal rise and fall times. The
third equipment is DC power supply. DC power supply will supplies us electrical energy. DC
current is a current that flows in one constant direction. The last equipment is function
generator. A function generator is an electronic test equipment or software used to
generate different types of electrical waveforms over a wide range of frequencies.
From the results of the experiment conducted, we obtained a few valuable
information regarding the utilization of DC power sources and the electric and electronic
measuring equipment. From experiment 5.0, we knew the actual minimum and maximum
values of voltage and current. For voltage, its minimum values is 0V while its maximum
values is 31.5V. On the other hands, the minimum values for current is 0A and its maximum
values is 3.16A. For experiment 5.0, we learnt how to calculate the values of the resistor
manually according to the colour of the resistor itself. We managed to obtain the same
values as the measured results. For the last experiment 6.0, the signal values are recorded.
While doing the experiment, there are several problems that we encountered. The
first one is, we obtained a slightly higher values of voltage per division and voltage peak-topeak for CH1 signal values. It is may be due to an error of setting in te oscilloscope itself. The
next one is we have trouble recording the data of the oscilloscope as the data shown keep
changing. We have to wait for some time so that the data shown is constant.

QUESTION:

1) Through which terminal does current flow into the DMM?

The current flow into the DMM from negative terminal to the positive terminal.
2) Discuss on the function of these buttons on oscilloscope:
a) ACQUIRE
The ACQUIRE function to controls the method of aquiring samples. It also has
the autoset button that will cause the oscilloscope to autmatically choose
settings for all the other controls that it thinks will best display the current
waveforms.
b) MEASURE
The MEASURE button function to display automated measurement menu.
