Course Objectives:

To be able to understand the existence of resources in nature and work flow of


ecosystems.

To be able to understand the methods for detecting and characterizing landscape pattern; the
causes and implications of landscape pattern to populations, communities and ecosystems.

To be able to achieve sustainable designs by incorporating elements and principles of


landscape design

Unit I
Natural resources and associated problems : Types of resources, Uses of all the
types of resources, causes of depletion of resources, Threats to environments
Unit II
Ecosystems and Ecology : Concept, structure and function of an ecosystem,
Producers, consumers, decompose-rs and energy flow in an ecosystem, Principles of
landcape ecology, Challenges threats and opportunities
Unit III
Elements, principles and features of interior and exterior landscaping : Types of
Landscaping and its need,scope and limitations, Elements,features and principles of
landscaping, Residential and commercial interior landscaping, Types of interior plants and
criteria of interior landscaping, Interior Landscaping
Unit IV
Contemporary landscape and applications in design,study of landscape
architects and their contribution towards landscape architecture :

Introduction to contemporary landscape, Study of landscape architects like Thomas


Dolliver Church, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, Andre Le Notre, Study of architects like Diana
Melborni ,Gertrude Jekyll, etc
Unit V
Study of gardens- Chinese gardens and Japanese gardens : Elements, features and
architecture of Chinese gardens, Use of Chinese garden elements in indoor landscaping,
Elements, features and architecture of Japanese gardens, Use of Japanese garden
elements in indoor landscaping
Unit VI
Study of gardens- English, Spanish and Islamic gardens : Elements of English
gardens, Types of English gardens, Elements of Spanish gardens, Elements of Islamic
gardens
