Instructor
Sister Emily Kunz

Descripttion
Two or more images with intermingled pixels and no hard
edges -- plus a spiritual message.

Process and Programs

To begin, I sketched a couple different possible layouts. Then
began designing in Adobe Photoshop. I decided to use two
images from our trip to Africa. I first edited the images, then
put masks on both to be able to blend the two together. I then
added design elements (orange shape) and type to create a
focal point.

Objectives
First, Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point
and flow. Second, Unify a layout with a consistent theme and
dominate spiritual message. Third, Learn to blend two or more
image together gradually, using masks. Fourth, Demonstrate
more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple
elements. Fifth, Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of
the image. Sixth, Apply typography principles (titles, quotes,
events or scriptures.) Seventh, Format type: Legibility; small
copy and title with varying text size. Eighth, Select good
quality images.

LOGOS

Sister Emily Kunz

Description
Three logo variations for a company.

Process and Programs

To begin, I sketched multiple logo options. Then began
designing in Adobe Illustrator. I used type, shapes, and color
to create the final three logos.

Objectives
First, create three completely different, original logos to fit a
company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.
Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Second,
use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
(No Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos
or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide
to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before
submitting.) Third, gather opinions from at least ten people
about which logo appeals most to them.

Description
A black & white flier about a graduate leadership conference.

FLIER

Process and Programs

To begin, I sketched four different possible flier layouts. After,
I created this design in Adobe InDesign. I used a larger font for
my title to create a focal point and alignment to create interest.
I left quite a bit of white space and made sure to keep my body
copy small. I was provided the image, logo, and content for this
flier.

Objectives
First, apply the design principles and use appropriate
typography. Second, incorporate basic InDesign skills to
improve basic flier layout. Third, retrieve image and logo from
links on this page. Fourth, create a project folder with image,
logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process and Programs

To begin, I sketched a couple different possible design layouts.

left quite a bit of white space so the image was visible. I took
the image myself.

Objectives
First, learn basic photography skills. Second, choose a color
scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate
the colors into the layout. Third, use a digital camera to take a
quality image, then download it. Fourth, adjust image levels,
saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for
NDE (non-destructive editing.) Fifth, size and crop the image,
then place on an 8.511 page layout. Sixth, size layers to design
text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop. Seventh,
print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all
