LETTERHEAD

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and
letterhead. Photos are okay. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed
optional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2
and printed above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of
white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on each piece.
Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

Much like last project I started my process by formulating a plan of what info
was needed to be conveyed to the audience. I made various sketches and
ideas for different types of logos. From the sketches, I chose a final layout that
implemented elements of design well. I then began the digital sketch in Adobe
Illustrator. Once they where complete I made the format for the letterhead and
the business cards in InDesign.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Microsoft Word

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.

Process:

I started the flyer design by choosing a color theme that I thought might be nice
to work with. Since I desgned this in Fall, I thought that gold, orange and brick
would be good choices. I gathered photographs of Fall-themed objects and
then began sketches for the layout. I utilized Photoshop to create my final ad by
recreated my sketch, adding the typography and included cropped photos.and
the use of typography.

Brackets (for coding) & Web Browser

WEB PAGE

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side
is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it
appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for
colors, appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype
(provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul
(with li tags), img, hr, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS
provided to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at
least the following: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the
paragraphs & list items, the background color, font families and add at least
one css comment.)
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot
with .5 inch margins for printing.

Process:

I started by creating some sketch designs for my web page. When designing the
webpage, I took into account the principles of color theory, typography, balance/
alignment, proximity, and rhythm. I created the logo featured on this project in
InDesign and used the shape tool, pen tool, direct selection tool, pathfinder and
type tool. This assignment also required coding to display the final version. I
have a previous history of coding, so using CSS and HTML wasnt too difficult.

You work for the local company (fictional or nonfictional company), who is
sponsoring a benefit event (you pick the event) for a benefactor (of your choice).
You have been asked to design a color flier to promote the event. The budget
is tight, and your boss doesnt want to pay an outside firm. The only computer
software at your disposal is Microsoft Word. Use your scanned image (s) from
P2-Event Ad Activity: Scanning and an appropriate color scheme to create an
event ad to promote a fundraiser that targets a specific audience.

EVENT AD

Adobe Photoshop
Microsoft Word

Objectives:

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message

and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs,
including Photoshop.

Process:

I started the flyer design by scanning my images and then on a separate paper
making sketches of base elements. In my sketches, I tried to focus on design
principles such as alignment, grouping, use of whitespace, focal point & flow,
typography, repetition & rhythm, and gestalt. After I was satisfied with my
sketches I utilized Microsoft Word to create my ad. I recreated my sketch, added
the typography and included cropped photos. The final design came about after
several revision sessions based off of critique meetings.

LOGOS

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or

personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-
tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with
the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals
most to them.

Process:

I started my process by formulating a plan of what info was needed to

be conveyed to the audience. I made Various sketches and ideas for all
different types of logos, typeface, shape, illustration, etc. I choose from
the ones that I thought where a good representation, but showed diversity
in how you would look at them. I then began digital sketches of them. I
had to adjust the digital sketches to have more visual appeal and to follow
design principles.

and logo/photo images were provided by the client (AKA, instructor).
I developed a flier based on the specificcations provided by the client.
As designer, I needed to have strong use of the following principles
of design: alignment, grouping, use of whitespace, focal point & flow,
typography, repetition & rythm, and gestalt. The final design came

You are in charge of creating a spiritual poster montage using images and
type. You can use a scripture, a quote, a thought, whatever you choose,
but it must be spiritual in nature. Choose two or more images. Create this
montage by using a layer mask to blend images, just as you did in the
activity this week. Remember that montages have intermingled pixels and
no hard edges.

MONTAGE

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)
Select good quality images

Process:

I chose to use a favorite passage of scripture that had lots of imagery as

my spiritual message. Choosing a passage with imagery allowed me to
pair it with good photos. I used Photoshop to create this montage image.
Tools that I relied on within the program were photo masks and filters.
Blending masks with differing opacities became crucial to creating a
strong final image.
