The Welfare of the Believer
This time of year marks another anniversary for College Lakes Baptist Church. Many things have happened, including the change of leadership in January, souls being saved, welcoming new members, improvements being made and even two of our members going home to be with the Lord Jesus. We will add the names of Mr. Cornelius Tart and Mrs. Bernice Jones to the list of names o f College Lakers with the Lord. We miss them and continue to pray and minister to their families. We live in a world that is constantly changing, some good and sometimes bad. For the Christian, change to be more like the Lord is a wonderful and only safe way to live. We desire to go in that direction. Paul tells the saints in Romans (8:3539) that when we believe and commit our lives to the Lord Jesus, we are safe and secure in Him. The entire chapter from the first verse encourages the Christian in the

new life in Christ. First, they have moved
from a condemned sinner to a believer who is therefore under no condemnation. They now walk after the Spirit. In verse (8:31) we read: If God be for us, who can be against us? Pretty good life and even Christ Jesus Who died for us, and is risen again, and Who is at the right hand of God....also maketh intercession for us. (8:34) He prays for us ! Then at the end of the chapter, we understand that as a believer nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril and sword start the list. Comforting indeed when our liberties are under assault and reports of increased evil, beheadings and disease have come to our land. We may be separated from life or one another, but never from OUR GOD. Completing the list: neither death, nor life, angels, principalities, powers, things present, things to come, height, depth, or any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Lets come home to Christ.

Whatever Happened to God and Country? We Are under God By Dr Paul Chappell
Pro Aris et Focisits the motto of many
military regiments and an oft-adopted motto for military families. Its a Latin phrase meaning For God and Country. The English translation is the motto for the American Legion. Throughout over 238 years of our nations history, weve easily acknowledged God and our dependence upon Him. Its in our pledge, in our national anthem, and on virtually every national monument in our capital. Its also in our enlistment oath for the armed services. Or at least, it used to be. A recent news article reported that, under threat of a lawsuit from the American Humanist Association representing an atheist member of the air force, the final four words of the enlistment oathSo help me Godare now optional. I am 100 percent for religious freedom. Every human being has a God-given freedom to choose to receive or reject the knowledge of God and the truth concerning Christ. But I am also 100 percent for national acknowledgement of and dependence upon God. Our nation was never Christian in the sense that every leader was a born again follower of Jesus Christ. But we never shied away from acknowledging our national need for God either. Im sure the United States military will want to continue recruiting Christian young people to their ranks. Im less sure our young people will want to serve in such God-rejecting institutions. (Earlier this year, another article reported the Air Force

Academy scrubbing a Scripture verse from
a cadets hallway whiteboard.) An honest historian cannot look back over 238 years of American history and separate God and country. But humanist and atheist activists are doing all they can to rewrite tomorrows history so the same could not be said in another 238 years. Actually, in another 20 years. And yet, we are one nation under Godnot because our pledge of allegiance says so, but because whether or not we acknowledge God, we remain accountable to Him. We cannot help but be under God. Even if we dont want to say the words.

Homecoming This Sunday !!
October 12th We are looking forward to our Homecoming service this coming Sunday. Invite family and friends to be with us this special day. It is a time when those who have been with us come back to visit their home church, and those who may be looking for a church home. It is a time to hear the preaching of Gods Word and have fellowship around a good noon meal. Remember to prepare for yourself and at least one other who may not be able to bring anything. A roasted pig will be provided, so bring all vegetables, fruit, sweets and beverages to the Academy building behind the Church. Hope to see everyone there!!
