Alain D'HAESE

Flammability of Aerosols
Aerosols are considered for classification as
flammable on the basis of:
their content in flammable components
the chemical heat of combustion
results of the tests:
Ignition distance test (for spray aerosols)
Enclosed space ignition test (for spray aerosols)
Foam test (for foam aerosols)

Alain D'HAESE

Flammability of Aerosols
When product not submitted to the classification
scheme
automatically the strictest classification applies
Flammable Aerosols Category 2,
i.e. extremely flammable

Flammability of Aerosols
Implementation for transport of dangerous goods
Linked to the implementation of
UN Model Regulations from rev.13 (2003)
Implemented:
air transport: ICAO TI (international)
sea transport: IMDG Code (international)
road transport: EU27+19 countries (ADR), USA
(49CFR), Australia (ADG), Chile, China, Japan,
Korea, ... but pending for Canada, Mercosur...
