The Globe and Mail 444 Front St. W. Toronto ON M5V 2S9 To the editor, Re this newspapers Saturday December 13 editorial, Two words: Carbon. Tax. To quote US Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., I like to pay taxes. With them, I buy civilization. Of course, we all know that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has never met a tax he liked, even taxes dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the environment. Harper sometimes speaks of the invisible hand of the market, as described in Adam Smiths opus, The Wealth of Nations. Would that be the same invisible hand that reneged on the Kyoto Accord ratification, so proudly waiving away Canadas environmental responsibility to the world? Or are we talking about the hand that jerked out of Carries grave at the end of her unfortunate series of events? If it is in fact Harpers handand not Carriesof which we speak, then perhaps it is more appropriate to imagine his penis jerking out of the grave, symbolic of his screwing Canada dead by ripping out its human rights while at the same time he and his gang of crooks serially rubber stamp secret, robber-baron trade treaties. However, criticism purely for the sake of criticizingdevoid of any constructive critical feedbackis as useless, empty and meaningless as the Canadian-flag lapel pin Harper wears to betoken his love for Canada, while at the same time he legally robs Canada of its natural resources on behalf of the transnational corporations he really works for. Yours truly, Rolf Auer
