Abstract. Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is the oldest spices belonging to the
Lamiaceae family, commercially and extensively cultivated for essential oil
production in many continents around the world. Oil and oleoresin of basil is widely
utilized for natural deodorant. Smells, however, can be embarrassing and unpleasant
and this is where homemade, Ociba Natural Deodorants are a great way to avoid
parabens, aluminum, and neuro-toxins found in commercial deodorants and
antiperspirants. Deodorants work by creating a more acid, inhospitable environment
to odor-producing bacteria, while antiperspirants clog or block the pores, cutting
down on the amount of perspiration that leaves the body, thus giving the bacteria less
to feed on. The chemical composition of basilicum L. essential oil depends on chemotype, leaf and flower colors, aroma and origin of plants. Chemo-types of basil based
on essential oil composition: 1) methyl chavicol (estragole)-rich, 2) linalool-rich, 3)
methyl eugenol-rich, 4) methyl cinnamate-rich, and also numerous subtypes. The oil
is characterized by high amounts of linalool (3550%) and estragole (1525%); 2)
Reunion chemotype (estragole basil): its main essential oil component is estragole
(80% or more); 3) tropical chemotype (cinnamon basil): oil is dominated by methyl
cinnamate and 4) eugenol chemotype with major oil component eugenol. It was made
stick natural deodorants by extracted basil 100 gr, alum 2 gram with alcohol 70-80%
25 ml by heated in waterbath (temperature 80C), enhanced sodium of stearat 3 gr ,
swirled it mingled to flatten, filtered it to dissociate its sediment, and pour it into
mould printing. Characteristic of Ociba Stick Natural Deodorant are Warm, spicy and
herbal, antiseptic and calming. In views of economical and easy aspects, production of
Ociba Natural Deodorant can actually be very effective in the fight against underarm
funk and really help us stay fresh all day.

I. Introduction
Among the aromatic herbs, basil (Ocimum basilicum L) has commercially and
extensively cultivated for essential oil production in Indonesia [1]. It grows semi wild
and is cultivated at small scale in vegetable gardens. Current domestic uses are only
for food and folk medicine because of their natural aroma, flavour and other properties
[7]. Nevertheless, a large scale production of the basil essential for well-known valueadded applications, as natural deodorant [8].
The Basil oil has high economic value due to the presence of specific
substances such as estragol, lineol, linalool, eugenol, methyl cinamato, limonene and
geraniol [2]. Essential oils extracted from the plants are in a complex mixture of
terpenes, sesquiterpenes, oxygenated derivatives and other aromatic compounds.
These components are characteristic for basil aroma, which are precursors to the
presence of 1,8-cineole have been suggested as agents in allelopathy reactions, methyl
cinnamate, methyl cavicol and linalool, which has mentioned the antimicrobial,
antifungal and insect-repelling properties of basil oil. The essential oil is widely
utilized for natural deodorant. The chemical composition of basilicum L. essential oil
depends on chemo-type, leaf and flower colors, aroma and origin of plants. Chemotypes of basil based on essential oil composition: 1) methyl chavicol (estragole)-rich,
2) linalool-rich, 3) methyl eugenol-rich, 4) methyl cinnamate-rich, and also numerous
subtypes. The oil is characterized by high amounts of linalool (3550%) and estragole
(1525%); 2) Reunion chemotype (estragole basil): its main essential oil component
is estragole (80% or more); 3) tropical chemotype (cinnamon basil): oil is dominated
by methyl cinnamate and 4) eugenol chemotype with major oil component eugenol.
Lawrence [13] classified four major chemotypes of basil based on essential oil
composition: 1) methyl chavicol (estragole)-rich, 2) linalool-rich, 3) methyl eugenolrich, 4) methyl cinnamate-rich, and also numerous subtypes. Basil cultivars also vary
significantly in their essential oil composition. According to their geographical origin
and on the basis of their major constituents, they are classified in four chemotypes
[14]: 1) European chemotype: the oil is characterized by high amounts of linalool
(3550%) and estragole (1525%); 2) Reunion chemotype (estragole basil): its main
essential oil component is estragole (80% or more); 3) tropical chemotype (cinnamon
basil): oil is dominated by methyl cinnamate and 4) eugenol chemotype with major oil
component eugenol.
The wide distribution throughout the world, the availability of various
chemotypes and the production of new cultivars have resulted in a great variation in
the essential oil composition and aroma among basil species [15]. The oils from
different types of basil or different production areas are of different distinct flavors
and different value on the world market [16-17]. In the perfumery the chemical
composition of basil oil is also of a great importance. The oil (with linalool and
methyl chavicol as the main components), is often considered to have the finest flavor
and the highest quality as deodorant.
Smells, however, can be embarrassing and unpleasant and this is where
homemade, Ociba Natural Deodorants are a great way to avoid parabens, aluminum,
and neuro-toxins found in commercial deodorants and antiperspirants. Deodorants
work by creating a more acid, inhospitable environment to odor-producing bacteria,
while antiperspirants clog or block the pores, cutting down on the amount of
perspiration that leaves the body, thus giving the bacteria less to feed on.
