The product spectrum comprises

photoelectric sensors with switching and
analogue output versions. They provide
solutions for detection of non transparent
liquids at a large distance. Transparent
liquids can be detected in a sure way by
liquid level probes at the end of fiber
optics.

TURCK-Ultraschallsensoren werden in
fast allen Bauformen mit Schalt- und
Analogausgang angeboten, sowohl im
M18/M30-Metallgewinderohr als auch in
den unterschiedlichen Quader-Bauformen
T30, Q45 und QT50U. Je nach Gertetyp
lassen
sich Fllstandsregelungen bis zu einer
Reichweite von 800 cm realisieren.
TURCK ultrasonic sensors are available in

almost all housing versions with switching
and analogue outputs, in M18/M30
threaded barrel housings as well as various
T30, Q45 and QT50U rectangular housing

leitfhigen Flssigkeiten durch Niveauwchter. Typische Anwendungen sind
z. B. das Steuern von Pumpen und das
Schalten von Ventilen, aber auch die
sichere Unterscheidung von Schaum und
Flssigkeit in der Getrnkeindustrie.

Kapazitive Sensoren
Capacitive Sensors
Kapazitive Nherungsschalter sind in der
Lage, sowohl metallische (elektrisch
leitende) als auch nichtmetallische (elektrisch nicht leitende) Objekte berhrungslos und verschleifrei zu erfassen.
Der Schaltabstand kapazitiver Sensoren
kann sehr stark variieren. Die hchsten
Abstnde werden fr leitende Stoffe (z. B.
Metalle) erreicht. Reduktionsfaktoren wie
bei herkmmlichen induktiven Sensoren
sind bei Metallen nicht zu bercksichtigen.
Der Schaltabstand bei nicht leitenden
Stoffen hngt von der Dielektrizittskonstanten ab; je grer die Dielektrizittskonstante, umso grer der Schaltabstand.
Mit Hilfe eines Potentiometers lsst sich
der Schaltabstand fast aller kapazitiven
TURCK-Sensoren an die jeweilige Applikation anpassen.
Um einen reibungslosen Produktionsablauf

zu garantieren, mssen Fllstnde (berfllsicherung, Leerlaufschutz sowie
Fllstandsregelung) sicher erfasst werden.
Kapazitive TURCK-Sensoren helfen dabei
nicht nur mit ausgereifter, strsicherer
Elektronik, sondern berzeugen auch
durch eine Vielzahl von Bauformen speziell
zur Fllstandskontrolle.
Fr den Einsatz im Ex-Bereich stehen

Gerte mit PTB-Zulassung zur Verfgung.
Um eine optimale Anpassung an jedes
Medium zu gewhrleisten, sind fast alle
Gerte mit einem fein justierbaren Potentiometer ausgerstet. Fr Groserieneinstze sind Gerte mit einem kundenspezifischen Festabgleich verfgbar.
Ob flach am Rohr oder Schlauch anliegend

oder durch eine Kunststoff- oder Glaswand hindurch, das Medium wird sicher
erkannt. Lsst sich eine Montage im
Behlter nicht vermeiden, kommen
entweder spezielle Tank-Adapter aus
mechanisch und chemisch resistentem
Polypropylen oder spezielle Sensorbauformen mit Dichtring und PVDFGehuse zum Einsatz.
Kapazitive Sensoren von TURCK besitzen

eine Benetzungskompensation. Dadurch
werden Strungen durch Benetzung oder
Betauung weitgehend vermieden.
Capacitive proximity switches are noncontact and wear-free sensors for

detection of metal (electrically conductive)
and non-metal (non-conductive) targets.
The switching distances of capacitive
sensors can vary considerably. The largest
switching distances are achieved by
conductive materials (e.g. metals). When
sensing metals with capacitive sensors,
reduction factors for different metals do
not have to be observed as opposed to
conventional inductive sensors.
The switching distances for nonconductive materials depend on the
dielectric constant: the larger the dielectric
constant, the higher the switching distance
(see table).
Adjustment of the switching distance
The switching distance of almost all
capacitive TURCK sensors is adjustable
(by a potentiometer) to match the specific
application.

incorporate a humidity compensation to
prevent interferences due to wetting or
dewing.

In order to guarantee smooth production

processes, it is indispensable to detect
liquid levels reliably (overflow, run-dry
protection and level control):
Here, capacitive sensors made by TURCK
are a valuable and reliable production aid
due to mature and interference-immune
electronics and a convincing choice of
housing styles, especially suited for level
control.
No matter whether the sensor is mounted
directly to the pipe or hose, or if it has to
detect the medium through a plastic or
glass wall - reliable detection is assured.
If mounting inside a container is inevitable,
TURCK has special polypropylene
adapters with extra mechanical and
chemical resistance, or special sensor

versions in PVDF (Dyflor) housings and
with sealing rings.
TURCK also offers sensors with PTB
approval for installation in explosion
hazardous areas.
To ensure optimum adjustment to the
specific medium, nearly all devices are
equipped with a potentiometer for fine
adjustment. There are also devices with
fixed customer-specific settings for serial
applications available.

TURCK-Linearweg-Sensoren arbeiten
nach dem magnetostriktiven Prinzip.
Dies verschafft den Sensoren systembedingte Vorteile, vor allem auch beim Einsatz in der Fllstandserfassung.
Der Messbereich lsst sich bei allen
Gerten so einstellen, dass das Ausgangssignal immer nur auf den bentigten
Bereich abgebildet wird.
Auf Wunsch werden auch Sensoren
gefertigt, deren Gesamtlnge individuell auf
Ihre Applikation zugeschnitten ist.
Damit sich die Sensoren einfach und
platzsparend in die Applikation intergrieren
lassen, ist die gesamte Elektronik im Stab
des Sensors untergebracht.
Die Sensoren sind in vier verschiedenen
Werkstoffen erhltlich (PVDF z. B. fr den
Einsatz in agressiven Medien, drei
Edelstahlvarianten, z. B. fr den Einsatz in
der Lebensmittelindustrie).
Alle Varianten sind fr den Einsatz in

explosionsgefhrdeten Bereichen in
Verbindung mit dem zugehrigen Betriebsmittel (z. B. Messumformer/Speisetrenner
IM33-22Ex-Hi/24VDC von TURCK)
geeignet (Zulassung ATEX EEx ia IIC T4
beantragt).
Die Kunststoffvariante (PVDF) wird in
den Messlngen
von
250 bis 14600 mm
geliefert. Ab einer
Lnge von 8000 mm
ist die Sensorlnge
flexibel (bei krzeren
Lngen auf Anfrage).
Die Edelstahlvarianten sind
in drei Qualitten erhltlich, vom
einfachen Edelstahl 1.4404, ber
polierten Stahl mit Ra = 0,8 fr den
Einsatz in der Lebensmittelindustrie,
bis hin zu hochpoliertem Stahl mit
Ra = 0,5.
Die einfache Edelstahlvariante ist in Messlngen von 250 bis 7000 mm erhltlich;
die polierte Variante wird in Messlngen
von 250 bis 3000 mm geliefert.
Die Baureihe R16 bietet eine erweiterte
Diagnose. Befindet sich der Positionsgeber im eingestellten Messbereich
(Messweg), so ist der Ausgangswert
zwischen 4...20 mA. Befindet sich der
Positionsgeber auerhalb des Messweges, aber immer noch im mglichen
Messbereich, so ist der Ausgangswert
an der 4-mA-Seite 3,9 mA und an der
20-mA-Seite 20,1 mA.
Befindet sich der Positionsgeber auerhalb des mglichen Messbereichs, betrgt
der Wert auf beiden Seiten 3,8 mA.

Linear position sensors to

the magnetostrictive
principle
TURCK linear postion sensors operate
according to the magnetostrctive principle.
This provides the sensors with systemrelevant advantages, particularly for use in
filling level detection applications. The
measuring range can be programmed on
all devices to suit the application. This
ensures that the output signal is only
reproduced for the required range.
If required, sensors can also be custommanufactured to ensure that their total
lengths perfectly suit your application.
The entire electronics are integrated into
the rod of the sensor, ensuring ease of
integration in the application.
The sensors are available in four different
material versions (PVDF e. g. for use in
agressive media, three stainless steel
versions, e. g. for use in the foodstuffs
industry).
All variants are suited for use in potentially
explosion hazardous areas in conjunction
with the respective equipment
(e.g. the IM33-22Ex-Hi/24VDC isolating
transducers/ loop isolators from TURCK)
(ATEX EEx ia IIC T4 approval applied for).

The plastic types (PVDF) are available in

measuring range lengths from
250...14600 mm. The sensor is flexible
from a length of 8000 mm (on request with
shorter lengths). The stainless steel
versions are available in three qualities,
from the simple 1.4404 stainless steel to
polished steel with Ra = 0.8 for use in the
foodstuffs industry, right up to steel with
Ra = 0.5. The simple stainless steel version
is available in measuring lengths from
250...7000 mm and the polished versions
are available in measuring lengths from
250...3000 mm.
The R16 series also offers an extended
range of diagnostic features. If the position
sensing element is in the set measuring
range (measurement path), the output
value is in a range of 4...20 mA.
If the position sensing element is located
outside the measuring path, but still
in the possible measurement range,
the output value is 3.9 mA on the 4 mA
end of the range and 20.1 mA on the
20 mA end of the range.
If the
position

Der LT3-Sensor verwendet zur Entfernungsbestimmung die Laser-Laufzeittechnologie und ist somit extrem leistungsfhig. Der Laser pulsiert eine
Million Mal pro Sekunde; die Impulslaufzeit
zur Detektionsflche hin und zum Sensor
zurck wird vom Mikroprozessor aufgezeichnet. Pro Millisekunde werden 1000
Impulslaufzeiten gemittelt und der entsprechende Wert wird an den Ausgang
weitergeleitet.
Durch die hohe Reichweite des Sensors
lassen sich auch Kleinteile oder wenig
auffllige Objekteigenschaften sicher
erfassen.
Der Sender und die Optik erzeugen einen

Lichtstrahl, der auf eine Objektoberflche
gerichtet wird. Das Licht wird vom Objekt
reflektiert und trifft dann auf ein ortsempfindliches PSD-Empfangselement.
Der Abstand der Objektoberflche vom
Empfnger bestimmt den Winkel, mit
dem das Licht auf das Empfngerelement
auftritt. ber diesen Winkel analysiert ein
Mikroprozessor den Abstand und ndert
entsprechend das Ausgangssignal.

uses pulsed
time-of-flight
technology to
achieve unsurpassed
performance.
The laser pulses
one million times
per second. The
microprocessor records
the time required for each
pulse to travel to the target surface and
back to the sensor. Every millisecond, one
thousand pulse times are averaged and
the according value is transferred to the
output.
The sensors long range enables it to
detect very small parts or inconspicuous
features too.

The emitter circuitry and optics create a

light beam which is directed toward a
target. The light is reflected by the target
back to the sensors position-sensitive
device (PSD) as the receiver element.
The targets distance from the receiver
determines the lights angle to the receiver
element. The angle is used to analyse the
target position by the microprocessor,
which calculates the appropriate output
value.

A multitude of demanding applications in

very agressive environments can be
implemented with glass fibres, which
include for example, temperatures up to
480 C, corrosive materials and extreme
levels of humidity.
Glass fibre optics also have very high noise

Bauformen und Abstrahlwinkel
TURCK-Ultraschallsensoren im Metallgewinderohr M18/M30 besitzen einen
sehr engen Abstrahlwinkel von etwa 6.
Diese Gerte eignen sich dadurch insbesondere zur punktgenauen Erfassung von
relativ kleinen Objekten. Die Bndelung der
Energie erlaubt auerdem Reichweiten
von bis zu 6 m. Mit 12 bis 15 ist der
Abstrahlwinkel der Bauformen Q45U
und T30U deutlich grer. Fllstandsregelungen lassen sich mittels Zweipunktsteuerung durch Ein- und
Ausschalten einer Pumpe realisieren.
Einige Ultraschallsensoren (z. B. Q45U)

gibt es auch als Versionen mit externem
Schallwandler. Dieser ist in einem separaten, kompakten Gehuse untergebracht,
die Elektronik befindet sich im normalen
Sensorgehuse. Diese Trennung ist
besonders vorteilhaft bei beengten Einbauverhltnissen.
Housing styles and sonic

angles
TURCKs ultrasonic M18/M30 sensors
with threaded metal barrels have a very
narrow sonic angle of approx. 6.
Therefore, these devices are especially
suited for precise detection of relatively
small targets. The concentrated sonic
beam provides sensing ranges of up to
6 m. With angles between 12 and 15, the
sonic cones of our Q45U and T30U
sensors are significantly larger.
Level controlling can be realised by a
dualpoint control (activating or deactivating a pump).
Some ultrasonic sensors have an external
sonic transducer which is contained in
a separate compact housing. The electronics are located in the regular sensor
housing. This separation is especially
advantageous when mounting space is
limited.

Funktionsprinzip
levelprox-Sensoren erzeugen einen hochfrequenten Ultraschallpuls, der durch ein
Koppelgel von auen in die Behlterwand
eingekoppelt wird. Dieser Puls breitet
sich innerhalb der Wand und der Flssigkeit
aus und wird von verschiedenen Flchen
reflektiert. Die Art der Reflexionen gibt
Auskunft darber, ob sich vor dem Sensor
eine Flssigkeit befindet oder nicht.
Montage
durchqueren muss, sollte die Flssigkeit
mglichst homogen und sauber sein.
Einbauten sind nur dann mglich, wenn sie
als Reflexionsflche dienen knnen.
Die Bauform T50 ist fr die Schweiund Klebemontage ausgelegt; die Bauform
M30 wird ber einen Schweiadapter
fixiert, der auch mit Spannbndern
befestigt werden kann.
Die levelprox-Sensoren LPRE-T50...

und LPRE-M30... lassen sich in beiden
Betriebsarten betreiben. So ist in jeder
Applikation die optimale Sensorfunktion
gewhrleistet.
Betriebsarten
Im Nachhallverfahren wertet der Sensor
ausschlielich die Reflexion an der anliegenden Innenwand aus (siehe Abbildung).
Gasblasen oder Schwebstoffe in der
Flssigkeit und Einbauten wie z. B.
Rhrwerke stren den Betrieb nicht. Im
Leerzustand sollte die Behlterinnenwand
aber mglichst frei von Medienresten sein.
Sind Medienreste nicht zu vermeiden, kann
das Echoverfahren zum Einsatz kommen
(siehe Abbildung). Hier wird das Echo der
gegenberliegenden Innenwand ausgewertet. Da der Schall den Behlter zweimal

frequency ultrasonic pulse which is coupled
to the container wall from the outside using
a coupling gel. This pulse propagates
within the wall and the liquid and is
reflected by several surfaces.
The reflection characteristics indicate
whether there is liquid at the sensor level.
In the reverberation mode, the reflections of the inner wall adjacent to the
sensor are evaluated (see drawing).
Gas bubbles or particles in the liquid
and installations such as stirring devices
hardly affect the sensor; yet if the container
is empty, no residues should adhere to the
container wall. Should this not be avoidable, we recommend the echo mode (see
drawing). In this mode, the echo of the
opposing inner wall is evaluated. Since the
sound has to traverse the container twice,
the liquid should preferably be homogeneous and free of contamination. Built-in
fixtures are admissible, provided they act
as a reflective surface.

Conductive Level Control
Konduktive Fllstandserfassung berwachen und
Regeln von Fllstnden
Niveauwchter knnen dort eingesetzt
werden, wo Fllstnde von leitenden
Flssigkeiten zu berwachen und zu regeln
sind. Typische Anwendungen sind z. B. die
Getrnkeabfllung mit sicherer Unterscheidung von Schaum und Flssigkeit.
Mit Niveauwchtern nach dem konduktiven Messprinzip (Leitwertmessung)
lassen sich grundstzlich alle Flssigkeiten
mit Wasseranteil berwachen. Dazu wird
der Flssigkeitswiderstand zwischen zwei
in die Flssigkeit eintauchenden Elektroden
als Messgre herangezogen.
Um Ablagerungen und elektrolytische Zersetzung zu vermeiden, wird als Sondenspannung eine Wechselspannung benutzt.
Die Fllstnde werden durch Relaisschaltzustnde gemeldet. Dadurch lassen sich
fllstandsabhngig z. B. Pumpen und
Ventile ansteuern.
Die Niveauwchter sind als Aufbaugehuse

fr die DIN-Schiene erhltlich. Die Reihe
umfasst preiswerte Gerte zur Erfassung
eines Schaltpunktes sowie Gerte mit
zwei Schaltpunkten und einstellbarem
Widerstandswert.
Gerte aus der multisafe-Baureihe
verfgen ber ein Weitspannungsnetzteil,
das die Versorgung von 20 bis 250 VAC/
DC erlaubt.
Ergnzt wird das Angebot durch selbstkonfektionierbare Edelstahl-Elektroden.
Conductive level detection

monitoring and control of
filling levels
Level controls can be used to monitor and
regulate the level of conductive liquids.
They are typically used in bottling
applications where a reliable distinction
between foam and liquid must be made.
Conductivity type level controllers are
suitable for all water-based liquids
(conductance measurement). They
measure the resistance of the liquid
between two probes which are immersed
in the liquid.
AC voltages are used in the probe circuit
to eliminate the build-up of deposits as well
as corrosion. The levels are signalled by
relay switching states. This fill level
dependant output enables, for example,
operation of pumps and solenoid valves.

The level controls are available as top-hat

rail (DIN standard) mounting housings. The
range includes attractively-priced devices
for detection of a switching point as well as
dual level sensing regulators and
adjustable resistance values.
Devices from the multisafe series avail of a
wide voltage range universal power supply

field sensors
Magnetic field sensors react to magnetic
fields and detect permanent magnets of
different field strengths. As magnetic fields
can permeate non-magnetisable materials,
it is possible to detect the filling level
through a pipe or tank wall with the sensor
using a float. The sensors are wear-free
and short-circuit protected.

modular IP67 I/O system
The new modular fieldbus I/O system from
TURCK with the designation BL67 integrates all the properties and merits of
modern IP20 systems in the harsh IP67
environment These systems can be
mounted directly on the machine or system.
The BL67 system consists of a gateway
and expansion modules. Isolation of the
electronics and connection levels has been
implemented with the expansion modules.
This division provides capability for
matching the system to practically every
imaginable industrial automation
application. The I/O-ASSISTANT software
tool provided free of charge supports the
user in all phases of engineering and
commissioning.

Remote I/O excom

excom is a remote I/O system for use in
potentially explosion hazardous locations.
It provides bus-compatible, decentralised
input and output modules in protection
degree IP20 for connection of binary and
analogue intrinsically safe field devices. The
explosion protection type of the systems
allows use in zones 1 and 2. The fieldbus
circuits are approved for use in zone 0.
The system consists of power supplies,
gateways, I/O modules and a module rack
to accommodate all components. The
backplane is integrated into the module
rack. The backplane is designed to
distribute energy, transmit data and to
provide the connection level for the field
devices.
