Dear Colleagues,

Ill give you what I consider model answers to the quiz. I had two responses from Omar
and Leon. Thank you both for your time.
1. How do you communicate objectives to the trainees?
-I write them on the board or show them to trainees. I refer he trainees to the textbook
where the objectives are expressed in the chapter headings. I do the end of unit
summaries which highlight them.
2. What's the SPSP mission statement?
-To partner with major Petroleum Services Companies to graduate quality Saudi
technical workforce who will serve the needs of the Petroleum Services Companies.
3 How do you deal with the needs of weaker trainees?
- I fill out deficiency notices, I refer them for counselling, I refer them for preremediation, I buddy them with stronger trainees, I give them as much attention as
possible.
4. What do you do for stronger ones?
- I urge them to join extra-curricular activities like speak up club, I appoint them as
safety ambassadors, I ask them to express themselves in Portfolio work, I buddy them
up with weaker students, I urge them to try for A grade and not just scrape past.
5. How would you describe the methodology used?
-I'd describe it as learner-centred and communicative.
6. How do you deal with trainees' different learning styles?
We do a VARK survey with all our trainees and use the information to inform our
approach. We keep a copy of the VARK survey for each class in our instructor files for
reference.
7. What is the role of instructional technology in your classes?
-We use it to engage attention of the learners, to expose the trainees to contextualised
language use, to enrich the learning experience, to accustom learners to the working
environment they will find etc.

8. How do management communicate their goals to you?

- They call team meetings, they have larger staff meetings, they circulate e-mails on
both team and whole staff levels, they sometimes give out hard copies, they talk oneon-one.
9. Tell us about teacher development here.
- There are peer observations built into our job plans, there are Aramco peer
observations, there is Aramco Train the Trainer, there are annual training days, there
are periodicals and bulletins circulated, there is feedback from QA and team
observations, there are MILO courses, there are Aramco teacher development slots,
teachers share ideas on an individual basis and circulate them in e-mails.
10 In your instructor's files there should be_
-Your group schedule, so you can plan what, where and when.
-Overview schedule so you can see how everyone else relates to that.
-Pacing schedule, so you have an overview of the scheme of work.
-Assessment schedule so you can see when the assessment is in order to prepare the
trainees for it.
-Training calendar to give you the big picture as to how this segment fits into the year.
-Training patterns so you can see how the course you're teaching fits into the whole
training experience of the trainee and Aramco's wider objectives.
- Aramco Instructional Guidelines. They tell you everything you'll need to know about
any English course you'll teach in detail and about the assessment of it. They won't
actually be in your file but you'll have a copy of it on your desk.
-Lesson plans. They help to show that you are teaching learner-centred lessons which
address the course objectives.
Thesr obviously aren't exhaustive answers, but they are what I would hope you'd
answer if quizzed by the ACCET team.
If they ask you anything, answer frankly and don't hide anything. However, don'
I'm making up these files as I write so that everyone has the same stuff in them
