2:1 BA Hons in Media and Sociology
I completed my final year studying Media and Sociology at Goldsmiths University in London. I feel that I
learnt many things moving from Devon to London and feel that not only has this University course allowed
me to understand my environment and the people around me more; but it has also allowed me to develop
myself as a person, as the country/city dichotomy enhances certain experiences and raises awareness of
social difference (something Im very interested in!). I wrote a dissertation which explored the social and
spatial differences between two extremely contrasting musical genres: Black Metal and Psytrance and I
found the whole process highly engaging especially being able to incorporate more practical exercises
such as the use of interviews and photography. I took theoretical modules which investigated such aspects
as how viewing the world through different media, for example a lens, can alter ones perception, the politics
and history of media and music production; alongside practical courses in Photography and Journalism I
was pleased with my final grade which was a high 2:1, (an average mark of 66).

May 2007 September 2009
Here I developed my customer service skills by working efficiently with my team, established connections
with regular clientele whilst still staying on focus during the extremely busy times of summer holidays and
Sidmouth Folk Festival. Had to serve food to a high standard and use coffee machines regularly throughout
the day.
Nannying | Private client
November 2009 April 2010
I looked after and entertained two boys aged 4 and 6, my jobs would include such things as picking them up
from school, making their food, playing games and making things, getting them ready to bed etc. I really
enjoyed the energy that being around these children brought me and especially enjoyed teaching them some
martial arts which they loved!
Promoter | Dubpack | www.packlondon.com
November 2009 May 2010
I helped to spread information to fellow students and people on the street about various club nights in the
area. Not only was I able to make connections within a music scene which I follow closely but I also gained
more customer relations experience.
Leader | Sidmouth International School | www.sidmouth-int.co.uk/
May Cottage, May Terrace, Sidmouth, Devon, EX10 8EN

I really enjoyed my 6 week contract working for SIS, I felt like I formed strong bonds and common
understandings with many if not all of the students of whom I was responsible for. This was shown in the
weekly reviews which students wrote for management in which I was told my name was mentioned a fair few
times!
I worked in the teenage group for students aged 13-18 and I spent my summer helping with their English
whilst supervising activities such as paintballing, golf, swimming, tennis, arts and crafts etc.
Private Tutor | Self Employed
January 2013 present
I have really enjoyed teaching my first student and I feel as though I engage well with him. I have been told
by his mum that Im already aiding his confidence in Maths, and in fact after the 4 th session he was moved up
a set, when before was his worst subject. I hope that my passion for learning will rub off and that I can use
the grades which Ive attained to help those, who find it much more difficult, to succeed.
PA and PR Administrator | Create Group Ltd.
March 2013 August 2013
My first office job has involved organizing companies marketing campaigns for them and helping with the
whole creative side to a business. I have learnt a lot in these past few months, including more about how to
manage my time and adhering to time limits. However, I feel as though its time for me to move on from this
position as Im feeling a little bit under-stimulated after getting to grips with everything I need to do. I believe
I have been a crucial player in the growth of the company.

February 2014 Present
My role as Hilary Lawsons Personal Assistant has been an extremely challenging one I have truly
stretched all of my skills to their limits and in doing so have learnt a lot about myself and my capabilities. I
spend my time divided between home work - caring for his 3 and 5 year old children, looking after the land,
cooking meals for the family and generally keeping things in check; alongside working as a promoter, caf
worker, event coordinator for The Globe at Hay; as well as doing all of the bookings for 2 of the stages at this
years HowTheLightGetsIn festival (the worlds largest philosophy and music festival), helping to manage the
stages and doing all of the festivals professional photography. Whilst in this role I have been living remotely
in a small cottage on the land, 6 miles outside of Hay on Wye, I have learnt to become resilient, even more
organised and extremely good at working with initiative. I have always attempted to work in order to get the
best results possible with a good deal of out of the box thinking.

Other Relevant Experience:

I have worked in very hard conditions at festivals for a number of different companies over the last few years,
including Groovy Smoothies, The Curry Shed, Peppermint Bars, Otter Brewery and as a steward. I believe it
is festival work which can show you how rewarding being a great person to be served by really is! Whilst
also displaying my ability to work under pressure.
Im extremely computer-literate and received a score of 107 words per minute with 100% accuracy in a
typing test. I can use any Microsoft Office program with ease and am highly knowledgeable of the internet
and social media sites.
From a young age I grew up in a Post Office and so often helped out with tasks, making me very familiar with
money handling.
I am a black belt in Judo (East Devon BUDO Association) I trained for nearly 7 years and have even taught
classes myself, it is an interest which often tempts me back to the dojo even now, showing that I have a
strong sense of drive and discipline.
I have a keen interest in photography and have followed this up by shadowing two separate photographers;
one portraiture (Paul Duriez), and one media (with the Exeter Express and Echo team). I regularly take
photos and I have a keen interest in landscape, art and derelict buildings. See:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jessicakimx/.
As well as working for Browns restaurant (see above) I have also worked for brief periods of time between
studies in 3 other similar establishments in Sidmouth showing that I am extremely flexible and find picking up
tasks simple.
I have spent time on my own travelling and driving through Southern Spain mostly the Sierra Nevada, here
I had the space and time to develop myself as a person and to focus upon my photography. I found that this
time allowed my confidence to grow and I returned to England feeling much more grounded in my self.

Interests:
I love poetry, Ive had four of my own published in collections by United Press. I was always extremely good
at English, attaining top marks in my SATs and continuing to excel in this subject throughout my education.
Music is a big part of my life, I have performed in a number of small productions both singing and playing the
clarinet. I also help to run an events company called Re:Sound (www.resoundbeats.co.uk). We started 3
years ago in our small seaside home town, Sidmouth, in Devon and now have regular nights all over the
South West and a residency in a popular club in Exeter. I have also, as said above, done all of the bookings
for 2 stages of a 10 day music festival, and have organised and promoted events at The Globe at Hay.
Fashion is also a great interest of mine; I was a house model for Vidal Sassoon for 4 years whilst living in
London and I have been spotted by fashion designers in London several times for my look!
I have always been very sporty and fit gaining colours in secondary school for Netball, Rounders and
Tennis, getting my belts in Judo and Tae Kwon Do (T.A.G.B) and exercising regularly.
My biggest love however has to be peanut butter. I hope to one day open up a peanut butter caf, called
Peanut People, providing practically perfect peanut products for the population.

Thank you for your time.
