service from Arabtec Engineering Services LLC. At
the heart of AESs company philosophy is the
commitment to being a top quality professional
company, offering competiveness services that wont

meet, but to exceed, its clients needs and
expectations every time.
Starting life as the Drainage Division within Arabtec
Construction, this innovative company was
established in 1997, with a total of only 35
employees. Through steady growth, visionary
leadership and dedicated staff, it has evolved
dramatically in both size and strength. In 2007, huge
changes saw AES become an independent company

offering a wider range of products and services

across the region. The continued support and
resources available from the group of companies
under the umbrella of Arabtec Holding PJSC gives
AES and edge over its competitors.
Continuing to concentrate on infrastructure, the
companys engineering works consists of drainage
and irrigation solutions including but certainly not
limited to:
Sewerage
Storm Water
Pumping Stations
Storage Tanks
Retention Ponds and,
Irrigation Networks
Incorporating a full system design service with
costing and feasibility studies.

AESs numerous infrastructure projects also include the construction

of roads, bridges and dams following the formation of a fully
incorporated joint venture (JV) company, AES-WCT Contracting LLC in
partnership with WCT Berhad of Malaysia.
AES-WCT Contracting launched its portfolio with the prominent and
prestigious Dubai World Central International Airport. The successful
installation of the highly technical and complex underground utilities
allowed the joint venture to showcase its expertise in an impressive
arena.
Historically, AES has predominantly worked in the Emirate of Dubai
and is a main contractor for the Dubai Municipality Drainage and
Irrigation Department. AES has been serving the people of Dubai
since its inception in 1997.

To date AES has connected more properties from

Septic Tank to Main Line Network than any other
contractor. Since 2006, under contracts DS170 and
DS180, AES has also been the Municipalitys House
Connection, Miscellaneous and Emergency Repair
contractor, a role requiring the company to provide
24 hr On Call service.
In recent years AES has successfully completed
DS170, DS113, DS128 and DS186 contracts with a
combined value in excess of half a billion Dirhams
for the Drainage and Irrigation Department alone.
All projects are allocated a full time Project Manager
whose role is to ensure the client is fully informed
and involved with the construction process from start
to finish. Consultancy meetings and constant site
presence guarantees the highest of quality finishes;
something that AES is renowned for.
To reinforce its commitment to providing a quality
product in a away that is safe to its employees, the
public and most importantly, the environment, AES
has recently implemented an Integrated
Management System that follows the internationally
accepted standards of EN ISO 9001:2008, BS OHSAS
18001:2007 & EN ISO 14001:2004.
High standards are met due to the commitment and
dedication of all staff involved. Our Staff are our
greatest asset, explains Amin Shahin, the CEO
whose family started in the industry in Palestine way
back in 1912.

Following the family tradition, Amin began his career

by completing Civil Engineering and Construction
Management Degrees at both Dundee and the
prestigious Heriot-Watt Universities where he
excelled in all disciplines. Recently, Amin has
become a member of the alumni of the London
Business School where he has been attending
executive courses for the past five years through the
Young Presidents Organization of which he has been
a member since 2001. For someone who grew up
surrounded by engineers and the constant daily
chitchat of construction site projects, this career
choice was second nature.
After successfully completing his studies, Amin
began working for Lilley Civil Engineering Company
based in the UK. Due to company growth and
expansion, the opportunity to travel to Dubai was
presented to the ambitious engineer. Little thought
was needed in the decision as Amin relished in the
future prospects and challenges that Dubai offered.
Amin states that he is very protective of Dubai due
to the opportunities he has been given, this is now
his home, where he lives with his wife and five
daughters.
The future looks genuinely exciting for AES and
although the company is firmly focused on Dubai it is
looking to expand its sphere of influence into Abu
Dhabi in the not too distant future. The company is
also looking to expand into Oman and Qatar, (where
Arabtec Construction is already making a name for
itself), as well as Saudi Arabia, following the launch
of Arabtec Saudi Arabia.

Project Description
The Dubai Academic City was established to house
schools, colleges and universities to provide
educational opportunities for local and
international students.
AES was successful in its bid to construct the
sewerage and storm water mainline networks for
Dubai Municipality Drainage and Irrigation
Department. The project started in September
2008 and was completed on time in May 2010. The
overall sewer lines reached over 25kms in length
with pipe sizes ranging from 200mm to 1200mm in
diameter, and in some cases laid to a depth in
excess of 16m. Storm water lines measured over
61kms in length with pipe sizes of 200m 1300mm
and also laid to similar depths of the sewerage

lines. Both networks provide new outlets in the

northeast corner of Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Ground conditions on-site varied considerably,

therefore various construction methods where put
into place, including open cut with stepped
batters, pipe jacking, micro tunneling and trench
sheeting: areas with high ground water were
handled by both well point and open sump
dewatering systems. AES also used a state-ofthe-art trencher to achieve its required outputs in
hard ground conditions.

agricultural and private use.
The project consisted of several construction
elements, including the construction of 20
kilometers of irrigation network with pipe diameters
ranging from 200mm to 1200mm; the construction
of a new booster pumping station with 4 No.
centrifugal pumps, giving a capacity to pump 500
liters per second at 50m head each; modifications to
the existing booster pumping station at Al-Aweer,
which required the installation of a new centrifugal
pump with a capacity to pump 700 liters per second
at 42m head.
