Winter Project (Batch 2013-2015 MBA)

As a part of the MBA curriculum, the first year students need to undertake a winter project
wherein the students need to study the organization as well as any of the functional areas in order
to acquaint them with the practical aspects of second semester courses.

Objectives of Winter Project:

To learn the practical aspects of industry and its environment

To understand the inter-department organization dynamics

To study any one functional area in detail

To facilitate industrial visits for the students

Targeted Learning Outcomes:

To check the application of theories studied in the first semester course of MBA

To orient them to the courses of second semester

To undertake a detailed project study and make a project report

Winter Project Guidelines

The 1st year MBA students are required to select a company (essentially a
manufacturing co.)
The duration of the training is 08 days beginning from the 3rd January, 2014
to 9th January, 2014.
The study should encompass Three Parts; One is the Industry Analysis.
Second part is basic organization study comprising all functional areas viz.
marketing, production, finance, HR, IT, etc. Third part, where the students
have to do the detail study of any one department.
All the students will have to prepare and submit the project on individual
basis. GROUP PROJECTS ARE STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED.
The students are required to inform the name of organization in which they
are going for winter training on or before 15th of November, 2013 to their
respective guides.

GUIDELINES FOR WINTER PROJECT REPORT WRITING


Any project report submitted to the institute for academic purpose as partial fulfillment of award
of any degree must be formally presented. The report should be constitute and written as per the
guidelines described below.
The guidelines are strictly to be followed. Any deviation from the prescribed guideline will lead
to award of negative marks or rejection of the report and the students may require re-writing the
whole/ part of the project report.
1. Front Page
Front page of the report should contain the following in chronological order
a. Title of the Project
b. Student(s) submitted by
c. Submitted to SKPIMCS

2. Certificate from the organization.


3. Certificate
A certificate has to be furnished from the respective guide(s) saying that the project was done
under his/ their supervision.
4. Declaration
Student(s) are required to declare that the work done is original and has not been published anywhere
else.

5. Acknowledgements
To mention, diligently, the names of persons and organizations that have helped you in the production
of the report.

6. Executive Summary
Represents the report in a nutshell without any illustrations or explanations. Here the aim is to enable
the reader to gather information quickly without having to go through the whole report. It should be
self-sufficient and intelligible.

7. Table of Contents (with page numbers)


To give the reader an overall view of the report and help him locate a particular topic or sub-topic
easily. The page numbering for items 2 to 8 should be in Roman Numerals. The page numbering for
items 9 to 15 should be in digits.

8. Chapter 1: Industry Analysis


Briefly Describe: Industry structure (Monopoly, oligopoly etc.), Nature of Demand, Profit potential,
Entry and Exit barrier and Rivalry among competitors

9. Chapter 2: Company Profile:


Briefly describe the companys activities: Organization Vission and Mission, History and
Development of the unit, Size of the unit and form of organization, financial performance (at least of
the last financial year); Profiling of all departments in the company, Employee services, Contribution
of the unit to the industry

10. Chapter 3: Study of ________________ Department (Finance/Marketing/Human


Resource/Production)
STUDENTS HAVE TO DO THE DETAIL STUDY OF ANY ONE DEPARTMENT.
