Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country

Begins a New Era

My name is Tim Cawley and I am the new director of
Track & Field and Cross Country here at the University of Idaho.
It is my pleasure to get this chance to introduce myself and my
staff to you and let you know how proud we are to be a part of
the great tradition that is Idaho Track and Field. It is an exciting
time here with an entirely new staff and the team moving back
into the Big Sky Conference. We want to connect with alums and
supporters of the program to keep each of you updated with our
progress as we strive to improve daily and achieve the big goals
we have for this program. We have a mission statement that
sums up how we plan to do this.

The mission of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country

is to create and foster a culture that thrives on
excellence in character, academics, and athletics,
while focusing on the process in a positive and
collaborative environment.

Director Tim Cawley

The staff I have assembled has contributed to the formulation of our mission statement and believes in the philosophies it encompasses. The staff is composed of Cathleen
Cawley (and yes, we are married) as our sprints/hurdles/relays coach and Travis Floeck as
our distance coach. Travis will be assisted by Casey Masterson. I will be coaching the field
events with help from Corbin Duer. It is a talented, well balanced, and fun staff that works
very hard together. We believe that a positive atmosphere is the only way to achieve the
goals we have for the program.

This newsletter will hopefully remind you of your days on the team and let you know
that you are still a part of the University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program.
Thanks for letting me take some of your time. I hope you enjoy some Vandal reading and
happy holidays to you and yours. Go Vandals!

How has your experience at the University of Idaho been so far?
Great! I love Moscow and all the people at the school. Everyone is very friendly
and supportive! The coaches are wonderful. You can really tell that they care
about you and want to see you succeed not only in track as an athlete but also in
life and in your schooling.

Why did you choose to run at the University of Idaho?

When I came on my visit I really liked the campus and was really impressed with
how nice everyone was! I immediately fell in love with the University and Moscow.
I was also very excited when I came to visit and met the womens cross country
team everyone seemed very motivated and eager to do well. I was also excited to
have other girls to run with at practice. Together, we can help push each other,
making us stronger and better athletes.
How did you get into running?
Growing up my parents always ran and I would bike with them. My 7th grade year my parents encouraged me
to run track. I ran the mile and the 800m, which was okay, but I never really thought about running again.
When my Dad suggested I join the cross country team my 8th grade year, I got into it and have been in love
with the sport every since.

If you had to exist or live in any movie, which one would it be and why?
If I had to live in a movie it would be Elf because I love Christmas, Santa Claus, and elves. I love the Christmas
atmosphere that is in the movie. It would be awesome because I could go to the North Pole when I wanted to
and it would be a Christmas wonderland all year long. Plus being an elf would be an easy life. They are always
happy and their main four food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.

What do you do with most of the free time you have when youre not running or studying?
In my free time when I am not studying or running I like to hangout with my friends. We usually do a variety
of different things like going shopping, swing dancing, biking and walking. I also like to do crafts in my free
time. I like to make tie blankets, pillows, and birdhouses.
If you could possess any talent you dont currently have, what would it be and why?
If I could possess any talent that I dont currently have it would be to be the worlds greatest chef and baker.
I love to bake and cook things but Im not the greatest. I always used to watch the top chef shows and always
wished I could just put random ingredients together like the chefs and make an amazing meal out of it. Plus
everyone would love my cooking!

What are you most excited about with your future here at Idaho?
I am very excited to race in an Idaho jersey for the years to come. Im looking forward to becoming a more
fit athlete and watching my progression over the years. Also I am looking forward to growing as a person and
getting a degree in something that I am passionate about.
