Get buckets and loaders
back to work with
effective on-site repairs
If you have ever repaired worn hinge
points on loader arms or buckets, you
know how difficult it is to cut off the
worn area and try to weld on new
hinge points while keeping everything
lined up. A better way is to use the
Climax Model BB3000 Portable
Boring Bar. If the holes are not badly
damaged, you can simply weld them
up, attach the Climax Portable Boring
Bar, and re-bore them to original
dimensions. If the hinge points are so
damaged that the entire area needs
to be replaced, weld on new
sections with slightly undersized
holes, then quickly re-bore
them to original dimensions
while keeping everything in
proper alignment.
Boring Capacity
Bore from 1-1/2 " to 5" (38 to 127
mm) in diameter, with the tool
head.
The 1-1/4" (31.75 mm) diameter
bar is 72" (1829 mm) long with 4
holes positioned along the bar to
hold 3/8" square tool bits in the
SAE inch version and 10 mm
square tool bits in the metric
version.
The clamp-on tool heads cover
the 3" to 5" (76 to 127 mm)
diameter range.
Get-the-Job-Done Power
A .6 hp (.45 kW), universal
type motor drives a 7.5:1
reduction gear box;
produces up to 40 ft-lb (54
N-m) at the bar.
Bar rotational speed at
maximum horsepower is 58
rpm (75 rpm freespeed).
Metal removal rate of .3 to .4
cubic inches per minute (5
to 6.5 cm3/min) in C1018
steel.
4/02
Backhoe buckets
can quickly be
re-bored.
Mounting
brackets adapt to
different
configurations.
Compact Design
The rotational drive extends only
19 inches (483 mm) out from the
mounting bracket and 14 inches
(356 mm) from the bar to the top
of the motor. The rotational drive
can be mounted with the motor in
any position around the bar if
clearance is a problem.
Rotational drive with feed rack
and anti-torque scissors weighs
only 35 lb. (16 kg).

Insert a properly
ground tool bit into
the tool sleeve in the bar,
adjust for depth of cut and
lock in place with the set
screw. Elapsed time: 4
minutes. For larger diameter
boring, the split boring head
is clamped onto the bar.
And there you are...ready to begin the first boring pass. Total
elapsed time for setup - 27 minutes.
Large loader bucket hinge points five feet (1.5 m) apart were
line bored (using a custom-length bar). Self-aligning bearing
brackets supported the bar near each bore. The 2-inch (51 mm)
diameter by 3-inch (76 mm) long holes were bored at a depth of
.175 inch (4.5 mm) with a feed rate of .006 inch (1.5 mm) per
revolution at 60 rpm for a metal removal rate of .395 in3/ min.
(6.5 cm3/ min.).

Boring Bars
You may need additional bars for some
applications. Cut our standard 72-inch (1829 mm)
to whatever length you require, or order the
optional 47-inch (1194 mm) bar with nine tool
holding positions. Each standard bar comes with
4 tool holding positions. Standard SAE inch bars
accept 3/8-inch square tools and the metric bars
accept 10 mm square tools.
Setup Cones
Replacement setup cones are available in
polyurethane. The polyurethane cones are
lightweight and very tough but can be damaged
with high heat.
Spherical Mounts
Rigidity is very important when using a portable
boring bar. You may need additional mounting
brackets to support the bar in applications that
have a long span between bores. The maximum
recommended unsupported distance between
bearing supports is 30 inches (760 mm). These
spherical mounting brackets feature self-aligning
bearings and can be used to mount the Model
BB3000 Portable Boring Bar or a Bortech
Borewelder.
