REQUIRED ATTACHMENTS
To be complete, this specification must include:

General Conditions of Contract

Design drawings and/or list of items to be insulated

Applicable insulation construction specifications

Covers and finishes as defined by P&G rep

CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Contractor in this specification refers to the installation contractor.

Contract bids must give insulation material, manufacturer, brand and number, thickness, attachment details, covering, finish and
any subcontractors.
Contractor will recommend in the bid any alternates, which offer quality or cost improvements, and specify the temperature limits,
K-factor and thickness of alternate insulation materials or include data/samples for other alternates.
All suppliers of raw materials are required to furnish Material Safety Data Sheets per OSHA regulation 1910.1200 Hazard
Communication for all hazardous materials supplied to P&G.
Material Safety Data Sheets must be shipped with the material to the P&G facility placing the order.
All personnel handling these materials are responsible for following the procedures identified in the Material Safety Data Sheets.
All site clearance of existing insulation must follow procedures identified in P&G Health & Safety Division, Industrial Hygiene
Section.
Upon completion of installation all insulated surfaces (piping & equipment) must be marked to identify that no asbestos is present.
Labeling requirements should be coordinated with the P&G Health & Safety Rep at the installation site. P&G Health & Safety
Division, Industrial Hygiene Section, controls this requirement.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
The following must be used for all installations:

Material specified on the insulation construction specifications or an equal alternate approved by the P&G rep. See reference list at
the end of this specification.

Only materials that are Asbestos-free are acceptable.

Use Cellular glass (N5-H) for a 12min. bottom course on all flat bottom tanks.

Durable covering/finish where subject to water, weather, cleaning or mechanical damage.

QUALITY STANDARDS

Replace damaged or wet insulation before covering and sealing.

Fill openings and voids. Seal joints and seams.
Continue insulation through floor and wall openings.
Replace or repair to original condition all insulation and covering cut or removed for this project.

INSTALLATION
General

Before starting, contractor must obtain from the P&G rep a written release that systems to be insulated have been leak tested.

For personnel protection, as specified by the design or by the P&G rep., insulate next to and 7 above floors, grades, platforms, etc.

All two layer and block insulation requires staggered joints.

Elastomeric insulation (N1) greater than 1 thick and up to 2 thick: use two layers and seal joints with manufacturers adhesive.
Attach elastomeric sheets with full coat manufacturers adhesive. PREVENT FLAMES OR SPARKS AND VENTILATE PER
ADHESIVE OR PAINT LABEL.

INSTALLATION (contd)
Piping

On vertical pipe 4 or larger, support insulation at 20 max. intervals. At hangers external to insulation, use wood blocks or P&G rep
approved method to support pipe in hangers. Do not change pipe alignment or support.

Insulate valves, fittings, and flanges on outdoor pipes unless specified otherwise. Use removable blanket type insulation at valves
and flanges that will require access for maintenance.

At flanges, valves, bends and fitting where insulation is to be omitted, taper down the pipe insulation.

SAFTEY NOTE: When using pipe insulation saddles/ shields, insure pipe saddles are secured to the pipe to prevent
falling out due to pipe vibration.

Tanks, Vessels, Ducts and Equipment

Attach fiberglass/mineral fiber (N2) to CS tanks or HVAC ducts with 10 or 12 ga. weld pins at 18 centers on sides and top, at 12
centers on bottom. (See Welding Requirement in General Conditions of Contract.)

Attach Calcium Silicate (N3), Expanded Perlite (N4) or Cellular Glass (N5) block insulation on vertical surface with SS bands on 12
centers and on curved tank bottom with SS wire. Block insulation supports are normally provided on tanks, vessels and ducts.
Insulation system must be compatible with these supports. When no supports are provided for block insulation on vertical tanks or
round ducts, the contractor supplies a support system as follows:

For tanks/ducts over 12 tall, provide insulation support with angle rings at regular intervals up to 12. Angles are to be slightly less
wide than insulation thickness. Minimum angle size: 1 x 1 x 1/8.

For tanks more than 13 dia., attach vertical bars at intervals to limit band length to 25.

Angles and bars will be 1 skip welded at 1 intervals on both sides. When no supports exist for block insulation on horizontal
tanks/ducts or rectangular ducts, the contractor will design, bid and supply the supports. No added supports can be welded to
rotating equipment or pressure vessels.

Contractor to supply additional supports for cladding as required. Corrugated or ribbed cladding in required if attachment points
exceed 5 ft.

Install pipe insulation and covering on small vessels/exchangers.

For equipment requiring frequent service, supply removable insulation covers that are vibration resistant and compatible with the
insulation system. Enclose equipment body and flanges.

At exposed flanges, bevel and seal insulation for flange bolt removal.

Do not cover equipment nameplates.

Fasten tank jacketing with 3/4 SS bands at 48 max. intervals.
