REQUIRED ATTACHMENTS
To be complete, this specification must include:
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
The following must be used for all installations:
Material specified on the insulation construction specifications or an equal alternate approved by the P&G rep. See reference list at
the end of this specification.
Use Cellular glass (N5-H) for a 12min. bottom course on all flat bottom tanks.
INSTALLATION
General
Before starting, contractor must obtain from the P&G rep a written release that systems to be insulated have been leak tested.
For personnel protection, as specified by the design or by the P&G rep., insulate next to and 7 above floors, grades, platforms, etc.
Elastomeric insulation (N1) greater than 1 thick and up to 2 thick: use two layers and seal joints with manufacturers adhesive.
Attach elastomeric sheets with full coat manufacturers adhesive. PREVENT FLAMES OR SPARKS AND VENTILATE PER
ADHESIVE OR PAINT LABEL.

INSTALLATION (contd)
Piping
On vertical pipe 4 or larger, support insulation at 20 max. intervals. At hangers external to insulation, use wood blocks or P&G rep
approved method to support pipe in hangers. Do not change pipe alignment or support.
Insulate valves, fittings, and flanges on outdoor pipes unless specified otherwise. Use removable blanket type insulation at valves
and flanges that will require access for maintenance.
At flanges, valves, bends and fitting where insulation is to be omitted, taper down the pipe insulation.
SAFTEY NOTE: When using pipe insulation saddles/ shields, insure pipe saddles are secured to the pipe to prevent
falling out due to pipe vibration.
Attach fiberglass/mineral fiber (N2) to CS tanks or HVAC ducts with 10 or 12 ga. weld pins at 18 centers on sides and top, at 12
centers on bottom. (See Welding Requirement in General Conditions of Contract.)
Attach Calcium Silicate (N3), Expanded Perlite (N4) or Cellular Glass (N5) block insulation on vertical surface with SS bands on 12
centers and on curved tank bottom with SS wire. Block insulation supports are normally provided on tanks, vessels and ducts.
Insulation system must be compatible with these supports. When no supports are provided for block insulation on vertical tanks or
round ducts, the contractor supplies a support system as follows:
For tanks/ducts over 12 tall, provide insulation support with angle rings at regular intervals up to 12. Angles are to be slightly less
wide than insulation thickness. Minimum angle size: 1 x 1 x 1/8.
For tanks more than 13 dia., attach vertical bars at intervals to limit band length to 25.
Angles and bars will be 1 skip welded at 1 intervals on both sides. When no supports exist for block insulation on horizontal
tanks/ducts or rectangular ducts, the contractor will design, bid and supply the supports. No added supports can be welded to
rotating equipment or pressure vessels.
Contractor to supply additional supports for cladding as required. Corrugated or ribbed cladding in required if attachment points
exceed 5 ft.
For equipment requiring frequent service, supply removable insulation covers that are vibration resistant and compatible with the
insulation system. Enclose equipment body and flanges.
At exposed flanges, bevel and seal insulation for flange bolt removal.
