Appendix Character Archetypes

As a means to jumpstart your imagination, we have created eight Character Archetypes

that are meant to broadly represent typical genre characters found in the Epoch
Restoration setting. The Player can use these Archetypes to decide the direction they
need to develop their character. The Archetypes presented here are not absolutes and
should only be used as general guidelines to assist in making the process of creating a
character easier and less time consuming. Players may feel free to create characters that
are hybrids of these eight archetypes in order to build the exact type of hero that they
want to play. The possibilities are endless and we encourage you to create whatever your
imagination can conceive.
Typical concepts allowable for an Epoch Restoration character include:
Primes

Across the thousands of worlds that comprise the Protectorate, there are always those
who are considered ordinary. They do not possess the benefits of genetic or
technological enhancements. They compose the majority of the population of many
worlds, living out their everyday, normal lives among those whose powers could level
cities or destroy armies.
BioGenns

BioGenn are organic entities that have had their baseline DNA genetically altered and
improved in an attempt to create a biologically superior being. Through such
BioEngineering technologies as gene therapy, nanotech gene manipulation, retroviruses
and selective breeding techniques, BioGenn are prime physical and mental specimens.
They are free of genetic defects or diseases, possess enhanced immune systems, more
efficient bodily organs, strengthened muscles and bone structures, and increased brain
capacities. Even their characteristics can be customized, allowing them or their parents to
choose their sex, eye color, hair color, skin color, ethnicity and body build. They are
smarter, faster, stronger and more attractive than average, non-engineered beings.
Clones
Espers

Espers are beings who can harness and focus psionic energies through sheer force of will.
Their minds are adept at manipulating and controlling psychic phenomena toward
specific results, whether it is seeing into the past or future, telepathically reading and
sending thoughts, or firing telekinetic bolts of energy with a single glance. Espers are
dangerous and powerful individuals despite the manner in which they arrived at their
abilities. Some are born with natural psychic talents due to their unique neural brain
structures dictated by their DNA. Others unlock their full mental potential with psi-active
drugs or psibernetic implants. And still others may have acquired their powers from gene
splicing with other psi-active individuals or creatures. Espers are respected for their
powers of mind over matterthey are feared for them as well. After all, no one is really
comfortable with someone who can invade or control his or her mindnot to mention
turn it inside out.

MetaPsycher
Psion
GenoMorphs

GenoMorphs are beings with a highly evolved physiological genetic structure, one that
grants them control over various forms of mutagenic powers. These hyper-metabolic
abilities are directly linked to a distinctive set of unique physiological mutant genes in
their DNA. These mutations generate energy fields of various levels that course
throughout the characters body, producing unique and individual powers. GenoMorphs
have these powers hardwired into every cell in their bodies. Each cell can generate its
own unique energy in which the entity can then focus and manipulate in a specific
manner. A GenoMorph has either inherited their mutagenes from someone in their family
line, having been past down from their parents or ancestors, or they have obtained them
from such artificial means as extensive genetic engineering.
BioMechs

BioMechs are beings that have chosen to integrate various levels of micro and macro
technologies into their organic bodies, creating the seamless merger of organic flesh and
electronic machine. These technologies can vary from replacing limbs and organs with
CyberTech or having their organic brain transplanted to a fully cybernetic body.
BioMechs could also introduce sophisticated nanotechnology into their system, walking
around everyday with billions of molecular size nanomachines floating through their
bodies. These nanomachines could do everything from providing them with constant
online access to vast computer networks, repairing damaged cells, fighting diseases,
augmenting their strength and speed, or making them a living weapon.

Synthanoid

Synthanoid are artificially engineered biological entities created by molecular

programmers for a specific task or purpose. Synthanoids are not are not clones or
genetically altered embryos. They have been literally programmed and constructed from
the molecular level to a full-grown being. They have been designed every step of the way,
put together atom by atom by Nan machines, building DNA and RNA sequences, neural
structures, engineering tissue, muscle and bone, generating brain tissue and blood flow.
Every physical trait, ability and skill has been pre-determined and designed into their
particular model or genetic strain. Once the organic manufacturing process is
finished they emerge from genetic vat tanks fully operational and ready for service, with
all their preprogrammed knowledge intact. Synthanoid have no memories, knowledge or
emotions except what they acquire from the point of their activation. They must acquire
these as they continue their lives and accumulate more experiences. They learn by doing.
This is also the reason they seem very cold and distant at the beginning of their lifecycles.
There are as many styles and varieties of Synthanoid since a strain can be constructed for

almost any purpose imaginable. Some Synthanoids have been created to fill physical
tasks and jobs such as warriors, laborers, or bodyguards, others created to be living
computers, couriers of classified information, tacticians, analysts, teachers and trainers,
and even to provided pleasure, conversation, persuasion and negotiation. Some are
manufactured, as free agents while others are property to be bought or traded. The rights
of a Synthanoid vary widely according to the setting. In some areas, the possession of a
Synthanoid is considered the consummate social statement, literally screaming of wealth
and prestige. In others, your existence is akin to slavery.
GeneMod

GeneMods are beings that have been genetically altered through gene splicing with other
creatures DNA in order to produce an enhanced being. This could mean combining the
cells of a humanoid with the genes of various animals or xenomorphic genetic material. It
could also mean taking the animal and trying to speed up its evolution to match that of a
humanoid being. GeneMods have either chosen to undergo this process willingly in order
to enhance themselves, or they were born to this fate because their ancestors were altered
during the course of a war in an attempt to create an ultimate weapon. A GeneMods
appearance and abilities can vary greatly, ranging from animalistic to nearly alien. Fur,
snouts, fangs, tails, claws, wings, leathery and armored skins, enhanced senses, strength
and speed are possible GeneMod attributes
Artillects

Artillects are mechanical entities with complex, extremely sophisticated and multilayered programming that has become, through various mysterious circumstances, a
Sentient Life formthey have developed a Soul. Their initial construction as a Robot,
Android or Artificial Intelligence has evolved past their original programming. They now
have feelings, emotions, free will and are aware of themselves as living beings and
recognize their place in the world. They are as alive as any organic being, and are willing
to act to preserve their own life and the lives of others. There are several ways to explain
how an Artillect has achieved sentience. The sophistication of the neural nets that
makes up their computerized minds so closely resemble an organic mind that the Artillect
actually learns and develops through accumulating experiences. The Artillects
programming, with its multiple layers of subroutines and protocols, eventually becomes
so complex that the machine gains self-awareness, developing the capacity to feel.
Sometimes an organic being may attempt to transfer their Soul into a robot body or
computer network, but the process is a partial failure and only the beings Spiritual side is
transferred. The Artillects intellect is limited to their programming, but they now have
the ability to experience emotion. The Artillects Body, whether it be robotic, android, or
a network of computers, becomes occupied by an Ethereal being who becomes trapped
in the body and brought to life.

EtherBytes

EtherBytes are organic, living beings that have transferred their living essence into
machines. They have converted their Minds and their Souls into a digital format,
uploading into networks of computer systems. Their consciousness travels between these
networks as living uploads of information. They are also known as InfoMorphs or Digital
Entities. There have been reports of beings that have been in a deep cybernetic link with a
vast computer system when their physical bodies are damaged or destroyed, and
somehow they manage to live on inside the matrix of the network.
Some EtherBytes are beings that have shed their organic bodies for ones more
technological or artificial, leaving the weakness of organic flesh for the endurance of
metal and circuitry. They have perfected the upload of their consciousness into fully
cybernetic bodies. These bodies can resemble a humanoid form or even take on one more
robotic or alien in nature. The majority of EtherBytes believe their ultimate destiny is to
fully merge with the technology, and that this is the next step in their own evolution.
Ethereals

Ethereals are the disembodied spirits of those sentient beings who have died and left
behind their physical bodies, but their Psyches remain anchored to the Material Plane of
existence. These cases are rare, and the circumstances for it to be able to occur are even
more rare. A being can manifest as an Ethereal if they possess such an incredible amount
of Will Power that they are able to consciously continue to force themselves to exist
without the benefit of a physical body. This can happen when the character first dies, but
absolutely refuses to accept their fact they are dead, their desire to remain with the
material world is so great that they refuse to move on to whatever happens next in their
destiny. Sometimes this can happen when the person dies in such an exceptionally brutal
or unjust way that their Psyche cannot rest until the wrong to them has been righted. It
has also been known to happen to those who left something very important to them
unfinished in their lives that their Psyches cannot continue onto the next realm.
Sometimes their Psyches are brought back to the material world through arcane means,
such as a spell or ritual. A state of unlife is said to be against the very laws of the
universe, and some Ethereals go mad with the knowledge they are neither dead nor alive.
Others force themselves into their Ethereal state at death through the sheer power of their
hatred, anger and lust for vengeance against the living. These Ethereals can be dangerous
and extremely deadly to mortals. Other Ethereals enter into their existence out of love or
duty to others, and live on as protectors and guardians.
