The 1 Convocation
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee visited Uttarakhand on March 17, 2013 to attend the First Convocation of
Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur. Addressing the first convocation of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in
Kashipur, Uttarakhand, Shri Pranab Mukherjee emphasized on India's political and economic stability. He highlighted the
importance of "inclusive" growth - that benefits each and every citizen of the country, especially those who are on the
margins of society and at the base of the socio-economic pyramid. The faculty and students of IIM Kashipur were called
14
upon to focus on the problems of the bottom of the pyramid and develop innovative solutions to address their concerns. He
also appreciated IIM Kashipur's plan to consider the setting up two Centres of Excellence on Sustainable Development and
on Competitiveness. He hoped these Centres would stimulate new thinking, research and practice in their focus area. He
further insisted that while consolidating its course structure, IIM Kashipur should leverage this opportunity and design
management programmes in a manner that will become a model for others to follow.
15
'Theory without practice is sterile. Practice without theory is blind' is the philosophy which the two-year Post Graduate
Programme in Management at IIM Kashipur believes in. The institute follows a blend of lecture and case based
methodology that encourages discussion amongst students and faculty which brings in diverse perspective for providing
solutions to real world business situations.
Regular projects, presentations, guest lectures and other extra-curricular activities encourage students to take multiple
initiatives and responsibilities and prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
The admission to the programme is through CAT, the toughest management entrance exam in the world in terms of success
ratio. This year, only 3.3% of the 214,000 applicants were selected for interview, finest of who eventually secured admission.

Mr. S. Roychowdhury
Summer Internship is a part of the curriculum for the PGP students, where students gain first-hand experience which
provides them with ample opportunities to implement the knowledge and skills imbibed in the first year. This helps the
students to better choose their respective fields of specialization in the second year based on their interest and also in
accordance with the needs of the market. The duration of the summer internship is of 8 weeks starting from first week of
April.
FINAL PLACEMENTS
Placements for the graduating batch commence in the fifth trimester of the course, by which time the students are able to
gain all the skills needed to work in an industry. The students are generally ready to join the industry in the month of March.
LATERAL PLACEMENTS
The lateral placements at IIM Kashipur are designed to cater to the increasing needs of companies to hire experienced
people in senior management level positions. This process is extensive and can be conducted as per the company's
