The Art of Project Execution is an experiential course employing a case-based

simulation that engages participants in the very essence of a project. It challenges
your skills, experience and imagination. Participants will learn to maneuver within the
project selection process to ensure they capture the highest corporate priority.

While the project/program management office (PMO) has been a growing trend in recent
years, the reality of the turbulent business environment is posing new challenges for
implementing PMOs. The pressure to deliver more with less and reduce overhead has
created a need to find innovative approaches.

In the simulation phase of the course, participants are challenged by a series of

common, but serious, potential disruptions to orderly project execution. You will, among
other challenges, have to placate angry stakeholders while simultaneously wringing
support from your own organization, and all the while leading your team to successful
project execution.

Whether you are building a PMO to support and enhance project management
capabilities or to focus on strategic aspects of portfolio management, you may encounter
implementation challenges and mixed results. While the PMO can offer tremendous
benefits and have strategic impact, the challenge is in the focus of the PMO and the way
it is implemented and sustained.

Who should attend?

The Art of Project Execution is designed to sharpen the skills of the experienced project
person, especially certified Project Management Professionals. However, pre-PMPcertified PMs with a minimum of two to four years experience will find the course
challenging, enjoyable and beneficial.

This seminar is designed to anticipate and answer the questions associated with the
creation and implementation of a PMO and portfolio management proficiency. Besides
the traditional elements of a PMO, this seminar will outline the steps necessary to
establish or enhance a next-generation PMO focusing on both tactical and strategic
aspects. The seminar will also focus on creating the right environment for portfolio
management by providing a framework for project selection, prioritization, oversight
and governance. Each organization is unique, and this seminar will provide a framework
that will help you to assess your organizational environment and culture and craft a
customized PMO and portfolio management plan.

What will my seminar experience cover?

The course opens with a review and strengthening of basic project tools and techniques
as they impact project execution. Approximately 60 percent of course time is devoted to
the Case-Based Simulation, which vividly demonstrates the adverse outcomes of failing
to follow process. In the simulation, participants are challenged by a series of common,
but serious, potential disruptions to orderly project execution. You will, among other
challenges, operate in a team-focused environment.
How will I benefit?
Participants will benefit by (1) capitalizing on the experience of merging a collective
skill set into a cohesive project, (2) understanding how to embed the PM processes into
workplace projects and successfully execute them and (3) developing skills necessary
for career development and advancement.
