In these times of change and challenge, solutions to the communitys

healthcare needs cannot be solved with a single approach. Because of

this, the CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCares programs consist
of both traditional healthcare programs and special programs that
bring health, education, and wellness to the most vulnerable in our
community.
Since its creation, nearly 50 years ago, CHRISTUS Foundation for
HealthCare, formerly St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, has worked to
extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to those in need.
Annually, more than 60,000 people received care from a CHRISTUS
Foundation for HealthCare program.
One of the ways CHRISTUS Foundation reaches those who cannot
afford medical care is through primary care clinics that serve the

uninsured and disadvantaged such as CHRISTUS St. Marys Clinic
in Southeast Houston and CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic in
Dickinson. Statistics show that more than 30% of Harris County residents under the age of 65 are
uninsured, CHRISTUS clinics serve a vital and important function in keeping communities healthy.
As Houstons first clinic-on-wheels, CHRISTUS Healthy
Living Mobile Clinics have cared for Houstons most
vulnerable residents for more than 25 years, bringing
healthcare, immunizations, and health education to the
medically under-served.

The Mobile Clinic provided healthcare for more

than 21,000 individuals last year.

The Mobile Clinics also

provide care for low-income
seniors many who are frail
and unable to access
traditional healthcare. Each
year, thousands receive
important screenings to
detect chronic diseases such
as diabetes and heart
disease and lifesaving
vaccinations that protect
against flu, pneumonia and
shingles.

CHRISTUS School-based Clinics are located in 16 low-income

community schools where CHRISTUS Foundation nurse
practitioners provide children with 6,300 on-campus clinic visits,
thus reducing health related absences, and parents have a sense of
comfort knowing their sick children can receive care at school and
the families financial situation wont worsen because of
unplanned, expensive medical care.

Recognizing that a number of non-medical issues can also

damage a persons health and well-being, the Foundation has a
number of programs to address them as well.

who are homeless and providing them with a hot meal. Once the
immediate need of hunger is met, the next step involves access to
counselors and a structured support system. Clients of Our Daily Bread
participate in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous
(NA) group sessions.
One of our most specialized
programs is the Cronin and

Operation San Jos. This
program is dedicated to
improving the quality of life for
children who are born with
congenital cleft lip/palate facial
anomalies.

Since 1983, the Clinics Operation San Jose Mission has led a
dedicated team of volunteers on medical missions to Mexico, Central
and South America to provide free surgical repair of these birth
defects in children. The week long trip corrects and restores smiles to
numerous children, many of whose parents walk miles and miles to
make sure their babies receive life changing care.

Our work is not yet complete and our plans for the future are
ambitious. We will continue to identify community needs and work
to address these needs through existing programs, partnerships, and
through the creation of new programs.
