Summary

Community Diagnosis is currently conducted by the Second year nursing students of


Angeles University Foundation in Barangay Pulung Bulu. It aims to obtain general information
about the community so as to determine the problems especially those which affect the health
of the community people and make necessary health care plans.

The community diagnosis was started through a survey that runs from August 16, 2010
until September 21, 2010. In here, the student nurses performed house-to-house visits within
barangay Pulung bulu and used survey questionnaire which contains an assessment of the
following areas: Socio-economic status of the Families in the community, Living conditions of
the Families, Nutritional Status of the children 0-72 months and Environmental Status of the
Community. The student nurse surveyed a total of 689 families and 555 households covering
2763 of the total population. After collating the necessary data, the student nurses started to
tally, analyze and interpret the data and this was from September 23, 2010 up to September 30,
2010. Lastly, implementation of the assessment was done by the student nurses with the help of
the barangay officials, health center staff and other sponsors. The problems identified are as
follows:

1. Unemployment
2. Lower education
3. Family Size beyond what family resources can adequately provide
4. Acute Respiratory Infection
5. Unsanitary food Handling and improper Food storage
6. Malnutrition
7. Knowledge Deficit About Family Planning
8. Improper Waste Disposal
9. Improper Drainage system

This compiles that unemployment obtained the highest score of 7.5 as


considered as a health resources problem since it is a part of manpower and money it
plays a factor in having poor families and also inability to provide the basic needs of the
family. It is followed by lower education having the score of 6.65 as considered as a
health resources problem because majority of the families are poor. Hence, they are
unable to send their children to school. Having a low educational attainment often results
to unemployment thus, decreasing the productivity of the community. While, family size
beyond what family resources can adequately provide got a score of 6.42 as considered
as a health resource problem because it is an economic indicator necessary to perform
essential health services and to solve health problems. Then, acute respiratory infection
got a score of 5.59 as considered as a health status problem due to the fact that it
increases the morbidity rate in the community. It is a health problem which may be highly
contagious because it is usually transmitted by airborne droplet. Lastly, unsanitary food
handling and improper food storage got a score of 4.83 as considered as a health
related problem since there exist economic and environmental factors that plays the
community at risk of acquiring disease out of 555 households, 55% of the people in the
community lack a more refine process or facility to preserved food. Unsanitary food
handling and improper food storage is one o the most common cause of diarrhea
.Poverty is a factor for the problem since most of the families cannot afford to buy and
provide necessary equipment to store.
