Known to many as the "Queen of Torrontes" or the "Evita of Wine", one thing

is certain: Susana Balbo is reputed throughout Argentina and the world for
her incredible winemaking skill, experience, and passion. Susana has been
making wine since she earned her enology degree in 1981, and she has
probably produced a wider variety of wines than any other winemaker in
Argentina. She has made wine in Australia, California, Chile, France, Italy,
South Africa, and Spain. Susana is also the only winemaker to serve two
terms as President of Wines of Argentina, which represents 95% of the
countrys exported wines.
Susana's Signature wines are the ultimate expression of her skill and artistry. Top barrel selections from her overall production
are complex and powerful, yet with an elegance and finesse that only Susana can achieve quite so perfectly. Susana strives for
balance in her wines, with layers of complexity coming from the individually fermented varietals. She wants people who drink
her wines to feel that every sip from the glass is as exciting as the first.

Late harvest-style wines from arid Mendoza are incredibly rare due to the
lack of moisture and botrytis at harvest time. Susana has created a unique
late harvest Torrontes from very mature, late harvest, almost raisin-like
grapes. The grapes are destemmed, lightly pressed and fermented in a small
tank for 16 days to produce a wine with great aromas and delicious flavors.
Red dessert wines are almost unheard of in Argentina. Fortunately, Susana has created a sweet, ripe Malbec dessert wine that is
both incredibly balanced and totally seductive. Adhering to the appassimento winemaking process, Susana carefully chooses
tight bunches of very ripe Malbec grapes and allows them to dry naturally which concentrates the remaining sugars and flavors.
She then used multiple delestage and pump-overs, long, cool fermentation through the winter in new French oak, and then
aged it on the lees. Chocolate dessert, anyone?
