A. TestsandQuizzes

1.ZeroToleranceforCheatingViolations!
You will be removed from the classroom by
your instructor or your TA if you choose to
violate the rules during the tests & the
quizzes. You will get an automatic F.
Moreover, not only the cheaters but also the
ones who help them cheat will get an
automatic F. You will also lose the right to take
any other Japanese courses at Purdue
University. Accordingly, I have to report this
incident immediately to the Dean, which could
result in kicking you out of Purdue University
forever.
2.Nomakeupquizzeswillbegiven.
Incaseofthehospitalizationorlonglastingsickness,youneedtosubmitadoctor's
note.Onlyintheselimitedsituationswillweallowmakeuptestsandquizzes.You
needtoinformyourinstructorimmediately,andshewilldecidewhetherornotyour
caseisseriousenoughforamakeuptest.

3.Eachchaptertestis50minuteslong.

Evenifyouhavenotfinishedyourexam,
youhavetosubmititontime.Donotspendtoomuchtimeinonepart.Itis
importantforyoutolearnthetechniquestobesuccessfulonyourexamsaswellasto
learnthecontentofeachchapter.
B.HomeworkAssignments
1.Allassignmentsaredueatthebeginningoftheclass

2.Latehomeworkwillnotbeaccepted:
15points: ifturnedinbeforeorontheduedate(atthebeginningoftheclass)
3.Cheatingonassignments(i.e.,copyingorlettingsomeoneelsecopyanassignment)
willresultinafullgradereduction.ItisOKtodohomeworkinastudygroup.
However,
iftheanswerofthepartwhichrequiresindividualanswersisthesameasyourclassmate,
weconsideritischeating.
C.Participation
1.Attendance:Thefirst5absenceswillnotbepenalized.Fromthesixthabsenceon,
eachabsencewillloweroverallcoursegradeby1%.Forexample,ifyouareabsent
10timesthroughoutthesemester,youwilllose5%fromyouroriginal100%grade.So,
evenifyougettheperfect100points,youwillreceive95pointsastheoverallcourse
grade.
Ifyouhavealegitimatereason(e.g.,attendingaconferenceoranofficialmeeting,
etc.),yourabsencemighthaveachancetobeexcused.Inthiscase,youmustnotify
yourTAofthereasoninadvancewithofficialdocumentissuedbytheauthority(e.g.,
theofficialletter/invitationfortheconference,etc.).Ifyoubecomesickandunable
tocometoclass,calloremailyourTAoryourinstructorbeforeclass.Youneedto
bringanofficialdocumentwhichprovesthatyouweresick(e.g.,adoctorsletter,a
prescription,etc.),whenyoucometothenextclass.If you have a legitimate reason
(influenza, extended illness) for an absence, you may be excused. Headaches,
stomachaches, and colds are not considered as extended illnesses. Save five free
absence credits for such occasions.

Ifyouarelateforclassmorethan15minutes,itmeansyouareabsentfrom
class.Moreover,ifyouarelate(5minutesto15minutes)threetimes,we

countitoneabsence.Nomakeupquizisgivenifyouarelateandmiss
aquiz.

Youarenotallowedtocometodifferentsections.Moreover,youcannot
claimyourattendancebycomingtoadifferentsectionwithoutgetting
permissionfromtheinstructor.

2.Rememberthisisanintensivelanguagecourse.Thatmeansthatyourtestscoresdo
notimproveunlessyouparticipateinclassroomactivelyandregularlyeveryday.
3."Activeparticipation"meansthatweexpectyounotonlytobepresentbutalsoto
activelyparticipateintheclassroomactivities.Yourclassroombehaviorwillbe
evaluatedeachchapteronthebasisofthe5pointsscale.

engagementonthatday(suchasjobs,meetingsandsocialgatherings)."cannotbe
acceptableone.ThisisaUniversityPolicy.
