Objectives and/or special features of the course (~100 words):
One of the objectives of the course is for students to understand basic psychological
concepts and how such concepts could be applied to understand different aspects of
human behavior. The course encourages students to use critical thinking to evaluate
human behavior using a scientific approach. The practical assessment of various
concepts would enable students to gain insights about own personality by thinking
critically about psychological theories and principles.

After the Completion of the course:


CO1: Students will be able to understand basic psychological concepts.
CO2: Students will be able to apply basic psychological concepts to understand
different aspects of human behaviour.
CO3: Able to analyze human thoughts and behaviors in an objective manner.
CO4: Students will be able to sharpen analytical thinking and communication skills.
Proposed Curriculum (Separated into 4-5 (not more than that) units each
corresponding to approximately 10 contact hours):
UNIT I:
Introduction: Nature, Methods, Subfield and Applications of Psychology. Nature vs.
Nurture Debate, Cognitive (Jean Piagets View) and Social development (Eric Eriksons
View).

UNIT II:
Basic Psychological Principles: Basic psychological principles of Learning, Memory,
Perception, Motivation, Emotion, Problem Solving, Decision Making and their
Application in different domains of Life.

UNIT III:
Psychology of Adjustment: What is Adjustment, Stress-Types of Stress, Response to
Stress, Impact of Stress, Factors Influencing Stress Tolerance. Coping with Stress.
Personality and Health: An overview.

UNIT IV:
Social Cognition and Social Influence: Schemas, Prototypes and Heuristics, Nature
and Types of Social Influence- Conformity; Compliance and Obedience.

End semester : 55%
Continuous evaluation (Random quiz, Class test, Assignment, Seminar, Class
Presentation etc. ) 20%
