WHAT IS TEAMSPORT?

A team sport includes any sport which involves players working together towards a shared
objective. A team sport is an activity in which a group of individuals, on the same team, work
together to accomplish an ultimate goal which is usually to win. This can be done in a
number of ways such as outscoring the opposing team. Team members set goals, make
decisions, communicate, manage conflict, and solve problems in a supportive, trusting
atmosphere in order to accomplish their objectives. This can be seen in sports such as hockey,
football, American football, association football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, water polo,
ultimate, lacrosse, rowing, rugby league, rugby union, cricket, handball and many others.

This article presented an overview about a complex task which is a talent identification (TI)
in sepaktakraw male elit players on the bases of some biomechanical parameters . The
researchers involved library and archival research using publicity available. They tried to
find and capture the detailed information on how to determine talent identification indicators
in sepaktakraw male elite players. There are some significant in fact no significant
differences found between the participants in this talent identification. As for me, this topic

is very important in order to find out the differences of any significant in talent identification
indicators in sepaktakraw male elite players.

When reading the journal thoroughly, I had identified that team sports brings their own
meaning which team sports and games are related to a group participation in their own sports
which they like to play with. Sepaktakraw is a complex net-barrier sport that players are
allowed to use all part of their body except hands or arms to kick the ball. In sepaktakraw a
team consists of three players of different role: feeder, server and spiker. As in sport such as
volleyball, badminton squash and tennis , the intensity of the game is intermittent and
depending on the length of the rallies following a serve. The purpose of this study was
determining talent identification index in sepaktakraw on the bases of biomechanical
parameters between sepaktakraw male elite players in three different positions of the game.

This research article was based on the participation of a thirty male players in sepaktakraw
where as they are divided into 3 positions categories of feeder, server and spiker with at least
5 years of international competition playing experience and mean age and weight. The
researchers used a biomechanical parameters as a measurements in this study which included
reaction time, hip range of motion, lower extremity power, agility, acceleration and speed.
Questionnaires were used to collect general information from participants. They were given a
test procedures and 5 minutes warm-up. Then, they were asked to have a 10 to 40 meters
running test to measure acceleration and sprint of subjects respectively which calculated an
average of ruler moving out and the distance that participants can catch.

A range of motion is used to measure the hip range of motion in 4 directions including hip
flexition, hip extension, hip abduction and hip adduction which the subjects need to lie in
supine position with hips and knees in neutral rotation.
Based on the studies, the researchers identified that due to an inadequate and unavailable
information about sepaktakraw players of other countries and also the different nature of the
game, data comparison is difficult. Due to the players role, there rea feeding, serving, spiking
and blocking. Thus the players need to immerse agility, precision, leg strength, timing and
skill. As meintioned above, biomechanical parameters that were studied in this research can
be considered as important factors for excellence in sepaktakraw. The biomechanical
parameters which are hip range of motion, speed and acceleration, lower extremity power and
reaction plays important factors that identified the ability and strength for the sepaktakraw
players.
From the results showed, talent identification process must accomplish on the bases of the
game position considered the differences and similarity of the players task. Result showed
that the servers, spikers and feeders, the biomechanical parameters should be considered as
the main parameters through talent identification process. Biomechanical parameters that
were identified in the current study can be used as the predictor or performance in
sepaktakraw and provide useful information for talent detection, talent identification in the
field of sepaktakraw and training program development.
As a sport person, I managed to find that this journal was really gave me understanding on
significant of biomechanical parameters that indicates talent identification among team sport
. The results indicated that there are different results obtained from the biomechanical
parameters measurements that the sepaktakraw players with different roles need to follow.

As a final conclusion from the research that has been carried out by the researchers, the data
presented in this study carry considerable practical application. As for the three positions with
different players, there are significant based on the biomechanical parameters stated that the
servers, spikers and feeders, the biomechanical parameters such as lower extremity power,
reaction time, speed, acceleration and hip range of motion should be considered as the main
parameters through talent identification process.
