ABSTRACT
A meat grinder or meat mincer is a kitchen equipment for chopping/mincing of, or
mixing of raw meat. It has tools like the mincing knife, main body, rotary lever,
fixture, feed screw, hole plate and hand wheel. The producer puts the minced food into
a funnel, which is placed on the top of the grinder. From there the material goes on a
horizontal screw conveyor. This screw conveyor, that can be powered by a hand
wheel, squashes and partially mixes the food. At the end of the screw conveyor there is
a knife installed directly in front of the fixed hole plate. At this opening the minced
meat comes out of the machine. The fineness of the meat depends on the size of the
holes of the plate.
Our report is about designing and producing a manual meat grinder. This report will
explain the questions which are that, how does a manual meat grinder machine can be
produced, what are the required steps, and which programs are helpful.

INTRODUCTION

Manual meat grinders are ideal for people who do not own stand mixers and who do
not grind better quantities of meat by using hand. The best manual meat grinders can
grind two to three pounds of meat per minute. This type of grinder is ideal for people
who

only

plan

to

grind

meat.

Some manual meat grinders have clamps that to attach on tables. The best advantage
of this type of manual meat grinder is that it is extremely stable.

All meat grinder machines have food grinder attachments. Technically, these
attachments can grind more than just meat. However, generally people buy them to
make their own sausage, hamburger, and other types of ground meat. They are very
affordable because the motor is the most expensive component and for manual models
there is no motor. Meat can be put directly into the stand mixer bowl and then mixed
with other ingredients.

Benefits of using a meat grinder machine are that the meat that is produced is fresher,
and it tends to be healthier too. By grinding meat at home, people can produce their
minced meat as they like, and they can add the ingredients that they want. People with
restricted diets can benefit enormously from grinding their own meat.

The first thing that I want to explain, summarized steps for the project. At the
beginning we have done was thinking about the concepts of the machine and
designing the machine according to its aims on a visual 3D modelling program. After
designing of the machine, to produce the parts, casting method was required. All of the
parts must be produced from metal. Parts must be strong and strength enough for
working condition of the machine. That is why we decided to use casting method to
produce the parts with molten metal. The best option was sand casting method.
Because, sand casting method is the cheapest in contrast to others, and affordable for
our project. To make a sand casting, pattern and cores are needed. That is why we
designed also them through 3D modelling program. Later we did the casting by
pouring the material into the cavity.
For 3D modelling we used SolidWorks program. After having the design, we used
PowerMILL to produce G-codes for manufacturing the molds with CNC machine.

What is CNC?

CNC comes from the first letters of Computer Numerical Control. CNC is a
machine to realize some mechanical processes with its axis. CNC machines are
generally used in the fabrication business. The most of CNC machines include
welders, drills, mills, grinders, routers and lathes. Plasma and water jet cutters,
along with other types of cutters are all popular uses for CNC machining. CNC is
invented for doing these operations by the control of computer. Computer control
provides very accurate and rapid motions, which is not possible to make with
human being abilities. By the help of CNC machine products can have higher
quality. The number of axis can be different for different type of CNC machines but
3 axis (X-Y-Z) CNC machines are the most famous ones.

Running the CNC


The CNC machine has to be started and the code program loaded. After the machine
operator presses the start button and monitors that the machine is following the design
laid out in the code. If a problem occurs, the operator will either stop the machine
after the cycle, or if the problem is very serious, will hit the emergency stop button to
stop the machine.

G-Codes
G-Codes are special codes for CNC machines, also to have 3D positioning. The user
can define type of the program (incremental or absolute), offset point (starting point
for the part), the tool properties, movements, coordinates, speed of the spindle, and
etc. These codes can be written by user, but it is not easy in some cases. That is why
there is some helper programs. For this type of code generation, the user has to draw
the work part on a suitable program such as SolidWorks, after some special processes
computer can generate the codes.

CONCLUSION
With a meat grinder, grinding fresh meat at home is a snap. Finding the right manual
