How are the vision and mission of the school effectively communicated to staff, parents, students, and community

members?
Are there multiple ways to communicate? Explain.

Module 2 DQ 2 Communicating our Mission and Vision Statement

Having a strong Vision statement will ensure the success in reaching your Mission statement. With the " General public,
State educational agencies, and politicians are demanding excellent schools, school leaders are being held accountable
for students sucess, ( Leithwood, Louis, Anderson, and Wahlstrom, 2004), having a strong Vision and Mission statement
is essential. You can communicate vision statement with stakeholders and our community by having a collaborative
effort amongs your school leader. There's weekly correspondence that goes home with your vision attached to, there is
collaborative efforts among the teachers or departments to re-establish there vision amongs each other in Department
meetings. At our school the vision is a repeatative statement. You will hear it in the classroom, on connect ed., and the
morning announcements. It is also posted through out the entire building, in classrooms, main entrances,
cafeteria, and hallways. We stressed the vision of our school because we want our teacher and students to
believe in what we are trying to accomplish in our Mission.

Re:communicating the mission and vision

Robyn,
We had the same thing happen one year with a different administration team but again, it is all on how the message is
delivered. Our schools website is an effective tool in promoting our school vision and any other events/ activities as well. Our school
district is a very diverse district/school. We have some of everybody down here and the language barrier is definitely there. We
chose to have computer skill workshops to teach our creole speaking parents computer literacy skills even though we are not a tech
school we feel that if the parents are well rounded then they we more likely to participate and support. We found it to be extremely
effective because the communication between the staff and parents has gotten better and its a healthier relationship. A suggestion
would be to have a family dinner night or a show with their children in it and then bring up any issues or projects you are trying to
implement. You will have the attendance.
Thanks for sharing,
LaShawn

Adelaida,
I strongly agree when you said the students need to be more involved in order to have the drive to complete their
studies. I feel that at the beginning of the year putting the vision statement in every teachers classroom and also
having the students go over the school vision at the same time of the classroom rules is an excellent idea. Making sure
our students know and understand the expectations from DAY 1.

I feel that having a strong vision statement will ensure the end goal, reaching the mission statement.
The general public, the state educational agencies, and politicians are demanding excellent schools

Anderson and Wahlstrom, 2004).
I feel that having a strong vision and mission statement is crucial. The vision statement can be
communicated to the stakeholders and the community by having a collaborative effort amongst your
school leaders. We have weekly correspondence that goes home with our students that has the
vision statement printed on it. There is also a collaborative effort among the teachers or department

heads to re-establish their vision amongst each other in grade level meetings and faculty meetings. At
my school the vision is a repetitive statement. You will hear it in the classrooms, on the connect-ed to
parents and it is stated every morning on the morning announcements. Like I said in the last DQ our
vision is posted through-out the entire building, in classrooms, main entrances, cafeteria, and even
painted in the hallways. We stressed the vision of our school because we want our teachers and our
students to believe in what we are trying to accomplish in OUR MISSION.
