SERIES DC MOTOR
ANALYSIS
In the module, our gathered data must be valid because of the adjustments in the
setup of the experiment. Due to the instruments and devices, there can be differences in the
gathered data and it is impossible for us not to have error also adding human errors. In our
experiment, the percentage error is about 5%. It is impossible for us to not to have errors
but it is possible to minimize it by using good quality instruments by several trials. In order
to produce right values in the variac we must check measure it by a voltmeter while
adjusting the knob.
This tackles on series DC Generator and characterizes the series configuration of the
dc generator and become more familiarized with the circuitry of the configuration. The
purpose of the experiment is to test whether the generator will shut down if it has
overloaded.
Based from the experimentation process done, the generator cannot work if it
doesnt have a supply. This supply is dependent on the type of generator whether it is an
AC or DC. The series dc generator needs an excitation voltage in order for it to function
well. The generator is dependent on the current flowing throughout the circuit. If the
current exceeds the current limit of the generator, the generator will stop due to overload.
With the maintenance of sufficient excitation voltage which is proportional to the current
will sustain the power needed for the generator to function.

DC SHUNT MOTOR
ANALYSIS
This experiment tackled on the depiction of Series DC Motor and its circuitry
configuration. Here, we were able to have an effective efficiency of the motor with direct
test and be familiarized with its circuit. Several Tests were done on the modules. With this,
I was able to contemplate on each tests.
Test 1 Field Resistance
This test focus on the measurements gathered under the DC condition given that its
a steady machine. It is a bit easy because of simple connection done in the 2 part
calculation and testing. The variac used might not be that accurate and it is hard to measure
the exact value needed. The probable magnitude of the different errors is about 5%. We
should try to rotate the control of the variac in order to produce the right amount of
voltage. On the experiment, I have observed that the lowest possible current readings are
not close to the approximation. By using Ohms Law manipulation, we can get the winding
resistance.
Test 2 No Load Losses
In this test we identified the mechanical and iron losses of the motor for the
assumption of their sum which as almost equal to the required power which enable the
motor to work. Introduction of new equipment made the work time longer since we have
to manipulate and check what those equipment can do. Some errors are unavoidable like
the Multimeter and variac which are not that accurate. In adjusting the variac, it must be
done carefully to produce precise and acceptable value.
Test 4 Direct Test with Eddy Currents Electromagnetic Brake
There are certain errors observed in the experiment. Adjusting the variac is
consider as instrument error since it is not that accurate. Gaining the balance in the
electromagnetic brake is somehow hard but due to the weight, we were able to balance it.
In the experiment, it showed us that as we increase the weight, the efficiency increases as
well. However, the values of the current in the inductor are close to each other. Also with
the current in the excitation and the voltage. Another factor that affects the performance of
a DC machine is the placement of the rods that balance the stator or the stationary part of
the motor/generator. With the use of steel rods attached to the body of the stator, it serves
as a commutator which affects the current flow in the coil of the machine. Balancing the
rods maintains the motion of the armature winding through the stationary magnetic field,

inducing a current in the winding. By applying this technique, the current flow on the coil
continues one direction without any unnecessary flow of current throughout the external
circuit of the DC machine.
Test 6 Electromagnetic Characteristics
The experiment showed that as we increase the impedance of starting rheostat, the
current also increases and the speed of the motor also increases. The current are close to
each other with only very small differences but the speed in rpm are somehow a little
distant at values.

SHUNT DC GENERATOR
ANALYSIS
Test 1 Field Resistance
In this experiment, we determined the resistance of a shunt excitation winding
given that the motor is a generator. Again, using ohms law, he resistance can be computed
Test 2 Magnetization Curve
Here, we found he no load voltages of the DC Generator with a constant speed as a
dependent from the excitation current from the source. The curve of magnetization
characteristic become an effective way to know the indications on the saturation level of
the magnetic circuit of the DC Generator. In the data and table, I can see that when the
excitation current is increasing. Also, the speed decreases and when the excitation current
is decreasing, the speed increases. However the values of Vo are close to each other.
Test 3 No Load Losses
Given now that the given is a generator, we found the values of the losses occurring
in the circuitry of the DC Geneator. Given the measured currents and voltages with the use
of the formulas for the determination of the power, we were able to found the needed
values. This losses affects the power of armature voltage and armature current and the
power absorbed by the motor.
Test 4 External Characteristic Curve
This test gives how to determine the values of the voltage through the terminals of
the given dc generator given that the load current is variable while the excitation condition
and the rotating speed are both constant. I have observed that the curve is decreasing.
Another observation is that as the load increases, the voltage generated changes. It is not
constant.

Series DC Generator
ANALYSIS
Based on the experiment, the data should be valid since the values given at the setup are approximate to what we have adjusted. Errors are unavoidable like instrument
error because some instruments or devices have different measured values and quality.
The variac used might not be that accurate and it is hard to measure the exact value
needed. The load resistance is continuously diminished so that the current exceeds the fullload value, the increasing effects of armature reaction, resistance drop and saturated
magnetic circuit cause the output voltage to fall rapidly. It was difficult to set the generator
because it will not work unless supplied by power. It is dependent on the current flowing
on the circuit but if it exceeds and also the generator will stop functioning due to overload.
