Bearings key to rotation, strength:

To assure long, dependable service, FMC
swivel joints are matched to load capacities
and service conditions. All ball races are
either flame hardened, carburized and
hardened, or snap-in stainless steel.
Pressure-tight seals protect bearings from
line fluid: Ball races and bearings are
protected from line fluid throughout the stated
pressure range, including vacuum and suction
service.
Field repairable: Only occasional light
greasing is required to keep Chiksan swivel
joints on the job. If packing, bearings, or ball
plugs should need replacing, easy-to-use field
repair kits are available.
Widest selection in the oilfield: Eight
Chiksan styles or configurations are available
from stock. These styles can be combined in a
variety of ways to suit any installation. End
connections are either threaded, integral Weco

Sour gas service

FMC manufactures Chiksan sour gas swivel joints in accordance with the National Association
of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Standard MR-01-75 and the American Petroleum Institutes
(API) Standard RP-14-E. These swivel joints are specially heat-treated and inspected for
controlled hardness. Because the specially heat-treated steel required for sour gas service does not
provide a strong enough bearing surface, Chiksan sour gas swivel joints use patented snap-in ball
races to assure extra strength and high load-bearing capacity. Elastomeric packing is used to
isolate the races and bearings from line fluid.

Recommended Service
Temporary and permanent flow lines, choke
and kill lines, well test lines, and other critical
service applications where flexible piping is
required to facilitate line layout and thermal
expansion.

Radial bearings provide

for easy rotation and
movement of steel lines

Features & Benefits

Patented straight-bore Teflon* seal: The
heart of the Swing Joint is its proven, straightbore Teflon seal (SBTS). The seal is
mechanically and pressure-energized for
bubble-tight service from vacuum to full
working pressure. The SBTS outperforms
elastomer type seals 5:1 in actual tests.
-20F to 450F, vacuum to 20,000 psi: In
API performance verification tests witnessed
by DNV, the Swing Joints SBTS qualified for
use at the unprecedented API temperature
range of -20F to 450F (-29C to 232C) and
working pressures from vacuum to 20,000 psi.
Consult factory for applications outside this
range.
Proprietary seal material resists sour fluids
and more: Unlike elastomer seals used in
journal bearing swivels, the Swing Joints
specially compounded Teflon seal material
maximizes resistance to sour gas and a wide
range of other oilfield fluids, reduces friction,
extends wear life, and eliminates explosive
decompression and thermal cycling problems.
Ease of maintenance second to none: The
Swing Joint is easier to maintain and has
fewer parts than any oilfield swivel joint.

Load segment bearing design

eliminates threaded retainer nuts and
other complex components

or Weco wing union ends

FMC Swing Joint

The Swing Joint disassembles into only four
loose components, including the seal. Because
there are no internal threads in the Swing Joint
housing, disassembly is much easier than with
other journal bearing swivels.

Integral Dynetor or Weco wing union

ends: Choice of end connections offers
design flexibility and provides for a highstrength, high-integrity connection every
time.

to insure that the connector is
fully made up.

Threads are automatically

sealed after make-up.

Dynetor Double-Nut Connectors

Detachable floating nuts: The nut floats
along the axis of the connector hub during
make-up and break-out. This feature eliminates the need to power off the entire length
of the engaged thread, simplifies stabbing, and
eliminates bolt-hole alignment problems.
*Teflon is a registered trademark of Dupont.

Dynetor seal technology raises performance

standards: -20F* to 450F, vacuum to 20,000 psi
The key to the Dynetor Connectors ability to handle extreme
oilfield conditions is its radial seal which is permanently energized and
impervious to the widest range of oilfield corrosives. This patented,
specially compounded Teflon seal maximizes resistance to sour gas,
sour crude, and other oilfield fluids, eliminating explosive decompression, swelling, and deterioration. Dynetor premium-service seals easily
handle sour crude, sour gases, and other corrosives commonly encountered in drilling, production, and well servicing. These capabilities,
coupled with dramatic reductions in seal friction and wear, result in
significantly extended seal life and improve reliability across the
broadest range of applications.
* For services below -20F, consult factory.

assures minimum turbulence, decreases
washouts, and reduces chemical, acid, sand, or
cement build-up around the pipe ends.
Connecting threads are API round tubing
threads for extra strength. Available in

No flange gaskets required: Ribbed seat face

eliminates flange gaskets, insuring leak-proof
installation.
Triple seal design: FMCs triple seal design
(see color illustration) provides three completely independent seals to isolate the stem
from line fluid.
