31.1 Introduction
31.1.1 Application
With the rapid development of GSM, the frequency resources are more and more limited and
become the bottleneck for the further development of GSM. The solution available is to
introduce new frequency bands. The introduction of extended bands of E-GSM and R-GSM is
of great importance to this issue.
The assignment of frequency bands varies from country to country. To meet the needs of
frequency assignment in local areas, the Huawei M900/M1800 BSC supports
PCS1900/GSM850 (not for GSM450 and GSM480) bands. This feature plays an important
role in solving the problem of limited frequency resources.
31.1.2 Availability
The multi-band function has strict requirements for the version of the BSC host software and
the BTS. See Figure 1.1 for details.

Step 1 Add a cell, and set Cell System Type to GSM900, as shown in Figure 1.1.

Step 4 Select the cell that is configured with TRX. Click TRX Property.
The TRX Property interface is displayed as shown in Figure 1.1.
Figure 1.1 Assigning proper frequency to TRX
The TRX must be assigned with proper absolute radio frequency channel number. The TRX
supporting different band types works normally only when it is assigned with proper absolute
radio frequency channel number. The RTRX can be assigned with any absolute radio
frequency channel number in P-GSM, E-GSM, and R-GSM frequency bands. But the TCH
can be assigned as an R-GSM channel only when the RTRX is assigned with the absolute
radio frequency channel number in R-GSM band.
Select a proper TRX Type for the TRX. If the default TRX type is used, the TRX mutual aid
may not occur.

Step 2 Select a cell, and add the TRX of the cell to the right pane. Click Next.
The Modify TRX Frequency interface is displayed as shown in Figure 1.1.

Step 3 Select Add Cell Effective Frequency and Modify TRX Frequency to add and modify the
frequency of the current cell.
