This manual contains cautionary instructions to observe for safe use of the Anti Rolling
Gyro. Please make sure you read these instructions carefully and become familiar with
them before using the Anti Rolling Gyro to prevent any accident that could result from
failure to observe them. It is recommended that you keep this manual available for quick
reference.
Please make sure to deliver this manual to customers who finally operate the
Anti Rolling Gyros.
The cautionary instructions shown here are to ensure the correct and safe use of the Anti
Rolling Gyro and to avoid personal injury or boat damage. They are identified by the
headings and symbols that have their meanings explained below. These headings and
symbols will help understand the nature of the instructions.
WARNING
CAUTION
Symbols
PROHIBITED USE
Do not operate during stormy weather or waves exceeding 7
feet (2.1m) to avoid serious injury.
ELECTRIC SHOCK
This symbol is used to indicate danger of electric shock
resulting from touching electric wiring terminals (especially
those of the Motor Driver).
HIGH TEMPERATURE
This symbol is used to indicate danger of a burn resulting from
touching a part that becomes hot during operation of the device
(damper for example).
These instructions contain correct handling and operational procedures for the Anti Rolling
Gyro (the ARG) and information for the proper maintenance and inspection of the ARG.
You must read these instructions before starting to operate the ARG so that you correctly
understand the characteristics of the ARG.
These instructions and the warnings attached to the ARG may not cover all the possible
dangers caused by improper use of the ARG.
Therefore, it is recommended that you contact the Sales Agent or Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries, LTD. (the MHI), if you have any questions regarding the operational procedure
or on the contents of these instructions.
Please note that due to product improvements in the future, the contents of these
instructions may change.
It is important to keep these instructions available for review by each operator of the ARG.
The Sales Agent or MHI will not bear any responsibility for damage to the ARG, injury to
any person, loss of profit or consequential damages or claim by any third party, which is
caused by any deviation from the correct handling or operational procedures described in
these instructions.

WARNING
During operation, the ARG components inside the cover are rolling; opening
the cover can cause injury to you. In the event of a malfunction, have
inspection done at your sales agent if it necessitates opening the cover.
WARNING
Be sure to use only the Motor Driver specially designed for the ARG.
Only use the Motor Driver supplied by MHI. If you use a different kind of
Motor Driver, it may result in malfunction of the ARG, which could lead to
interference with the running of the boat or to an accident.
To prevent an electric shock, do not touch the electric terminals.
WARNING
WARNING
When the ARG is operating, the dampers and ARG cover heat up. You could
burn yourself if you touch the ARG during operation.
Damper
WARNING
The ARG cover is not a strength member. If you place objects or sit
on the ARG cover it could result in failure.
During operation the ARG components inside the cover are rolling;
broken the ARG cover could be caused injury or death.
CAUTION
CAUTION
Always use all the installed ARG units. Using only a few of them
could lead to malfunction of the whole system.
CAUTION
Do not disassemble the ARG yourself, replace any of its parts, or use it
for any purpose other than that for which it was designed. MHI will accept
no responsibility if such actions lead to failure.

(2) Stopping
Turn the remote switch OFF.
Confirm the start check lamp and the rotation rate check lamp is OFF
too.
Turn the circuit breaker OFF, then turn off the ARGs power generator.
After cut off the power supply to the ARG, ARG stops its operation
gradually. It takes approximately 1 hour the system becomes ineffective
completely.

Warning
Warning Stay away from the ARG units while the system is operating.
Warning
Do not remove the top and side covers from ARG unit. The inner parts of
an operating ARG unit are moving at dangerously high speeds.
ARG cover has blowholes for inside cooling. (See Figure 5-1.)
If you put finger or foreign substances in the blowholes it could be cause
of injury or malfunction. If dust enters in the blowholes it could be cause
of
malfunction.

It will be better not to restart the ARG for at least 1 hour after shutdown.
Warning Never touch the ARG unit and Motor Driver until it completely stops.

5-2 Restarting
If restart the ARG due to any kind of anomalies, turn off the remote switch, then
turn off the circuit breaker. This will stop the power supply to the Motor Driver,
and the Motor Driver become reset. Confirm the Motor Drivers charge lamp is
OFF restart the ARG according to the procedures in Section 5-1
Please check the ARGs operation is completely off to perform the restarting.
It is a
function that the ARG will not be turned off even the main power generator
turned off for a moment. This function is valid only for the following
conditions.
If the boat temporary use an electricity from the ground to start the ARG
and then change it from the boat (power generator) to supply the
electricity.
If there are some power generators on the boat and want to change the
generator to get applicable electric capacity during the ARGs operation.
A customer does not need to prepare any extra parts or wirings to get this
function.
Table 5-1 describes the procedure from the time the power generator is
temporary turned off and to the ARG reduce its rotational speed and
automatically return it to normal speed. When you use this automatic fast return
function, confirm this procedure carefully and check the start check lamp and
rotation rate check lamp all the time. If dust enters in the blowholes it could be
cause of injury or malfunction.

during its operation, the ARG will have excessive current and it will start the
protective function of the Motor Driver to stop the whole system.
Caution If you operate the ARG for the first time, follow the procedure below and
Section5-1 Method of operation. If you turn the ARG on by the main
power generator or the circuit breaker with a remote switch is On, it starts

Warranty Period.
The warranty for the ARG shall expire one year after date of
defect (including latent defects) if ARG Owner fails to deliver notice to the Sales
Agent or MHI specifically identifying the defect prior to the expiration of the Warranty
Period. Any corrective work (including without limitation, any repaired or replaced
item) furnished under the warranty shall carry the same LIMITED WARRANTY on the
same terms for same period ending one year after the date of sale of the ARG.

8. Installation
The attached Installation Manual describes the instructions on how to install the ARG
on your boat. To install the ARG, it may be necessary to make appropriate
reinforcements to the boat and it is also necessary to provide an appropriate power
supply (generator). Your sales agent will be happy to assist you in providing further
information about this.
