PROPOSAL

AKADEMI SISWA BANGSA INTERNASIONAL

(SAMPOERNA ACADEMY BOGOR)
Environmental Action 2013

Make a Take for the Earth's Sake

I. BACKGROUND

Teach the children so it will not be necessaryto teach the adults.

-Abraham Lincoln-

Environmental issues have become hot topics discussed in the recent years. High pollution
level and bad trash management are only some of them. Government is now working hard
on any possible solutions of overcoming the problems, not to get worse. Yet, the active
participation and enthusiasm of people, especially teenagers who are the next generation
are much needed to make a better environment.
Unfortunately, at the moment teenagers are less enthusiastic responding all the
environmental issues around them. They are not really aware of their environment. What
is happening with those teenagers now is that they cannot recognize any environmental
problems; in fact they are actually facing the problems.
Apparently less environmental awareness of teenagers starts to increase since they are still
children and they do not get enough information about environment. This indication exists
because the environmental lessons taught to children are still less practical. So, teaching
children about environment is important theoretically as well as practically. As they grow
older, hopefully they will have already increased their awareness of their environment.
For all those reasons, comes an idea of a project to create a better environment. The idea
of the project firstly comes from a program held by Legacy International and Center of
Civic Education in Indonesia and supported by United States Embassy in Indonesia
Indonesia-United States Youth Leadership Program 2013. We, Anggun Citra Berlian and
Rahmad Yesa Surya took part in the program and spent in the Unites States for about 3
weeks to learn about environment. Within 3 weeks, we, Anggun Citra Berlian and Rahmad
Yesa Surya, out of 8 participants from Bogor and Bandung, visited some non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) dealing with environmental projects as well as learnt more about
development strategies on environments. As a result, we both can come up with a project
proposal entitled Environmental Action 2013 as the implementation of strategies in our
area for a better environment.
In conclusion, to keep the environment even good requires a very good participation from
all the people, especially teenagers and children, who are still students, as in the future
they will help to create the sustainability of a good environment.

II. OBJECTIVE
Our first program, Enviro-Action will introduce the theoretical and practical environmental
lessons to children sitting in elementary school. The environmental lessons will tell the
students about general knowledge about environment what a good environment is and
what the criteria of good environment are, classes with more fun. Not only that, the
environmental lessons will also encourage them to be more aware of the environmental
issues happening in their environment right now and take part actively in the real actions
of how they can help to make their environment better. Then, when all these goals are
achieved, we will succeed the program in increasing the environmental awareness of the
children.
Next, a short movie competition under an environmental theme for teenagers will,
hopefully, encourage teenagers to think about one of the environmental problems
happening around them and present it into a short movie. By the short-movie making, the
teenagers not only recognize the problems but also produce ideas which may be the
solutions of the problems.
