WhilelivinginRussia,PadrickBentleybecameimmersedinthesights,sounds,history,
mythsandlegends.LikethefabledPrince,hebroughtbackwithhimthemagicalfeather
oftheFirebird.Hisattempttobringharmonytothediscordofourageissteepedin
revolutionarytraditions.More

rtistBentleysaysabouthisartisticprocess,Iworkattheintersectionoftwomediumspaintanddigital.Theworks
arecomplementary;thedigitalworkisbornfromthepaintings.Thepaintingsarethevisualrepresentationofmindand
theNoise,anaestheticbornoutoftheconflictbetweenthetwodiametricallyopposedforcesexpressedthroughcolor,
textureandmovement.

HisGlitchpaintingshaveaninnerpulselikeStravinskysSacreDuPrintempswithhiswishistoopenoureyesand
sensestotheworldaroundusandjoinhiminbringingaboutpeacefulchange.Theonlyconfrontationisdonebyhispallet
knifeandpigmentsasheattackshiscanvases.
Bentleysmethodisdifferent,butKandinskysinfluenceisclearlywitnessedinhislyricalapproachtocompositionandin
hisspectrumofcolors.Camusrationalehelpscreatehisassembledorder.

eachpieceuniquelyevolvesoverthecourseofseveralmonthsaslayerdriesuponlayer,squareandlineoversquareandline,andthe
colorsandtexturesdictatethesubsequentsteps,adeconstructed,pixelatedexperience.Beneathitall,accordingtotheartist,the
photoluminescentpigmentsfluoresceinthepresenceof365nmwavesoflightwhichgivethebackgroundofeachpieceitsownunique
lightonlyabletobeseenundertherightconditions.
AtfirstyoumightbeovercomewiththeintensityofeachworkasIdid,buthopefullyyouwillbeabsorbedbythe
beautyandthemessageswithin.Bentleysays,Thepaintingsaretheexpression/experienceoffindingpurposeandtruthinthe
digitalcircumstancesoftoday.Inmoredepth,hefurtherexpresses,Ifeelwerefacedwithanoverwhelmingamountofdatawe
mustconsumetostayrelevant,whetherthatbesociallyorintheworkplace.Weremanipulatedandhomogenizedbythisnecessityfor
consumptionandincreasinglyalienatedfromourselves.Thereisadistancingeffectonourhumanityaswemoreandmoreexperience
