EXERCISE
Make an impactful poster, involving a social cause that is human-centric by nature.
Size: A4
Photograph/image used in the poster should be original (clicked by me).
Minimal text, the photograph should do all the talking.
No special efffects to be done.
Thought about which human centric social cause to cover; finalized cancer.
Researched for the right kind of picture to be used for the poster.
Shortlisted final picture.
Came up with a exclamation mark logo to portray an NGO, working towards the cause
of cancer.
Used my theme colors as black, red and white.
Came up with the tagline, FIGHT CANCER.. NOT LIFE..
Worked around the space with logo, tagline, impact line and the photograph.
Keeping it simple worked.
Realised that a picture can speak volumes.
A tagline can have an impact too.
Worked around the constricted size of an A4 sheet.
The picture does make you think, as the boys eyes speak volumes.
Minimal written matter, simple but independent font, strong but few colors make the
poster impactful overall.

Stationery
Sizes: 1. Letterhead: A4
2. Envelope: Std. size for an A4 sized letterhead.
3.Visiting Card: Std. size
Your unique selling proposition must come through.
Focus on what you as an individual do.. eg. photography, visual merchandiser, etc.
Keep format, sizes, paper used for printing and end use in mind.
Print using digital print process.
My aspiration: Fashion Director, VOGUE, India.
Used red as the main color to show power, leadership and feminity.
Made a few logos with different styles of my name (personal singnature), and shortlisted
one.
Created my final personal signature and used it as the logo.. (TAARINI.NB)
Used a cropped picture of a glamorous woman, portraying fashion and elegance.
The font used was very simple, yet it had its impact.
Worked around the given space, with the logo and the required information on all three
(letterhead, envelope and visiting card)
The white and red color combination made the stationery look simple yet elegant.
Came up with a creative idea of having the red color on the entire page, on the backside
of the letterhead and visitng card. This helped in creating an unsual impact on the other
person, handling the stationery.
I learnt that creating your own personal stationery actually helped us realise what we want,
and focus on the same!
Understanding the profession thoroughly, before making the stationery was important.
The right usage of colors was another important aspect i learnt.
The final prints came out well.

EXERCISE

Magazine Print Ad
(For a Shoe Brand)
EXERCISE
Design a print ad for a shoe brand, fit to be printed in a glossy fashion magazine.
The aim of the exercise was to create a full page magazine advertisement to attract
the reader (target group in that magazine to be tempted into buying the footwear).
The product was to be the Hero, and do the talking in the ad.
Size: Vogue/Harpers magazine page size (21.5x27.8 cms).
Find a photograph of an appealing shoe/ footwear, from the internet, to be used in the
ad.
Create or find an interesting line to be used in the ad.
Use a shoe brands logo for the ad.
Write a headline for the ad.
I selected NINE WEST as my brand and found the image of the stilletto to be used in the
ad.
Came up with a different and interesting tagline for the ad.
Colors used: 1st ad- black and white mainly, with a photoshopped picture of the
stilletto
conclusion: Elegant.
2nd ad- loud yet feminine pink and black.
conclusion: Sexy.
The tagline used, has a personal touch to it.. making the reader feel that they are
special and deserve the best.
Using the right colors in the right proportion was an important learning.
Placements of the logo, the image of the shoe, the tagline and the headline was to be
done carefully, without making the ad look tacky or over done.

Succumb to Temptation...
Brochure
(For a Designers Charity Event)
EXERCISE
Design a brochure for a charity event organized by a designer.
The objective was to provide information both, about the charity, which was to be the
beneficiary as well as give all the details of the designers responsible for the same,
along with the event being organized.
To develop and enforce paper sizes, quality, printing techniques and basic layout skills.
Selected ABU JANI AND SANDEEP KHOSLA as my designers and THINK Foundation as the
charity being benefitted.
Did research over the internet; found necessary information about the designer duo,
and the Think Foundation.
Size: maximum page size - A4
The style of the brochure was our choice.
Edited the information, and used it in the brochure.
The format was pre-set; 1st side was the cover page, 2nd side was the introduction to
the designers organizing the event, 3rd side was the information about the charity and
the cause its supporting, 4th side was the formal invite, with sequence of events to
take place, along with the contact details and RSVP information.
Colors used in the brochure had its own significance.
Colors like purple indicated elegance and royalty, golden yellow for richness and
shimmer, red and green as they are contrasting yet have a strong impact- very much
like Abu Jani and Sandeep Khoslas works.
Working around the allotted space with the required information was necessary.
Elegance was the keyword while working on this brochure.
The font used was easy to read, and comfortable on the eyes.
A few reference images were used to make the brochure visually more appealing.
Using the right font and colors can make a lot of difference.
experimenting with the style of folding for the brochure was interesting.

Supporting A Cause...
Thalassaemia
with a fashion show
followed by dinner.
Thalassaemia PrevenTion
Thalassaemia Major is a very
serious genetic blood disorder. The
conventional treatment involves
lifelong blood transfusions, and iron
chelation. The only permanent
solution to the problem is a Stem Cell
Transplant. This, from a practical
point of view, is out of reach for most
children.
But, Thalassaemia Major can be easily
prevented. Behind every Thalassaemia
Major child, there are two healthy
youngsters who did not know that they
were Thalassaemia Minor. Knowledge
of this fact could have easily prevented
the tragedy of Thalassaemia Major.
Think Foundation works towards
creating awareness about
Thalassaemia Minor amongst healthy
youngsters through awareness lectures
and materials. They organize screening
camps for Thalassaemia Minor, and
provide counseling sessions to those
who are detected as Thalassaemia
Minor.
Think Foundation also works towards
sensitizing Pathology Laboratories and
Gynaecologists through workshops.
Care of ThalassaemiCs
Children suffering from Thalassaemia
Major live a life of great challenge.
Apart from being dependant on lifelong blood transfusions, the children
have to be monitored for iron overload, endocrine, cardiac, bone density
and other problems. Think Foundation
aims to bring some normalcy and happiness in their lives.
The objective is to increase their life
expectancy and enhance the quality
of their lives. For this purpose, Think
Foundation is in touch with children
suffering from Thalassaemia Major,
their parents, Doctors, Day Care
Centers, health authorities and other
organizations.
Think Foundation organizes more
blood donation drives than any other
NGO in the city. To ensure that holistic treatment is provided to the children in a comfortable and geographically convenient location, They have
been able to initiate and coordinate
the opening of new Day Care Centers
across the city.
Request for iron chelation and other
areas needing financial support are
received at Think Foundation. Relief is
provided on a case-by-case basis. The
other aspects that engage the attention
of Think Foundation are those that
concern handicapped status, workshops on treatment, entertainment
programs and advice on bone marrow
transplant.
TO make a small but effective visual story, with the help of images found over
the internet.
Nine pictures were to be used, each to be visually linked with the next.
Size: A3
The links had to give the diverse pics and the story a visual and pictorial
connect.
A tagline or quote or statement must be incorporated explaining the visuals and
the concept/thought behind it.
The images i selected were not as visually linked as much as conceptually linked.
Choosing the right images, of the right size and quality, so that they dont end up
getting pixellated was very important.
The colors in the images i selected were in synch too, making it flow with the
link.
The main idea behind my story was the power of MUSIC.
Musicians, musical instruments, musical notes, beats, symphony and harmony every aspect of music has been covered in my visual story.
Finding images that have a sense of likeness yet having its individual appeal was
important.
Colors had a sense of flow and harmony amongst themselves in all the visuals. A
sense of calmness derived from these colors.
Using black as the background color was a good idea to make the images and the
tagline stand out.
The font used was flowy, just like the sound of music..
Placing the 9 images in the right order was another tough but important task to
make this project successful.
