WATER FOR ALL

Executive Summary
A billion is the number people in
the world, without access to clean
drinking water. Yes, it's a water
crisis, but it affects everything:
health, security and education.
This people are walking for hours
to collect water, but once back this
water is not even clean, it causes
diarrhea, dehydrations and even
death, but do they have a choice?
Every 19 seconds, a child dies
related to the quality of water.
Until when?
We are a team of engineering students, and we believe that in this
battle for life we could change this
tough reality. Armed by our skills
and our knowledge, we decided to
look after this project, full of energy and motivation. We traveled
many miles, we felt the pain of
these people, we searched, we tried
to find solutions, but we never

gave up! And then we succeedded! Our team is our strength, our
strength is in our harmony and our
harmony defines our consisting
and solid work.
After research and experimentation
in partnership with professors and
laboratories, we developed Vernet,
which is a simple filtration system,
produced based on a mixture of
clay, sawdust and coal. After heating it from 500 to 700 C, the
residues are decomposed while
releasing carbon dioxide gas which
forms pores in the ceramic material. These pores have the right size
to trap up to 99% of pathogens
while allowing water to flow instantly. For more efficiency against
viruses, a purifying solution of
silver nitrate is added on the pot, to
react chemically with the water.
Thus Vernet alone could

carry out a physical and a chemical

water treatment. An effective
treatment which was certified by
the Pasteur laboratory in Morocco.

OUR SOLUTION

WATER FOR ALL

We believe that our solution made

a difference in peoples lives. It all
began in Ait Habibi village nearly
to Bejaad, with Zoubida, an ambitious poor woman. Zoubida had no
access to clean water before. She
was drinking from the then at the
center of the village or the fountain
installed by local authorities,
which was available for only 2
hours a day and was supposed to
supply the entire village with 70
other families living in the same
conditions.

After several awareness campaigns

and technical training, Zoubida can
now get drinking water by filtering
it at will. Her little girl is no longer
obliged to queue for hours to get
drinking water that is stored sometimes for days and may be recontaminated. Her baby no longer
suffers from diarrhea and pimples
caused by poor water quality. And
besides, she became independent
through income she generates from
the production and sale of Vernet
filter.

We didnt stop at Zoubidas village. The Vernet project is now implemented in two villages of Morocco: Ait Hbibi in Bejad and Ben Taher in Sidi Bennour. 2 women micro-entrepreneurs have adhered to the project and have now become able
to produce and sell filters to families which have, today, access to safe drinking water and their number exceeds 35 families, today.

OUR IMPACT

WATER FOR ALL

People using our product in the marketplace.

Our products are now available in

the market. We noticed that the
needs of the market segment on
which we are focused remained
unmet before our intervention.
This customer segment is the population in the base of the socioeconomic pyramid. Vernet seeks to
be unique by focusing on this segment of the population which is
often under-looked due to the high
prices of effective filtration systems that we could found in the
market.

Indeed, our target beneficiaries are

people who lack access to drinking
water. Based on disposable income
of Vernets target market and the
costs associated with production,
our per-unit price is 100 MAD for
retails and 85 MAD for wholesales. This price gives us competitive advantage over other current
technologies on the market. This
price also allows to a new market
segment to have access to filtering
technologies on a point of use basis.
The pricing structure takes into
account both the affordability for
target households and a realistic
profit margin which includes incentives for retailers and flexibility
for seasonal discounts.

OUR MARKET

Our goal is to reach as many users as possible in markets with high potential, while undercutting potential competitors.
That is why we come up, with clear marketing and sales strategies:
In one hand, for our marketing strategy, we first chose to name our product Safa in the marketplace, easy to say and to
remember. It is a strong brand name to market the product because it embodies trust and recognition.
Then in the Short Term, within 1st year, we aim to:
O Position Vernet as an effective brand with important health benefits
O Enhance and stabilize the sales network by
creating regional points of sale.
O Drive further market penetration within desired
coverage areas
O Introduce Education Service initiatives (education talks , seminars, leaflets)in marketing
O Support marketing through strategic channels
and according to our customer segmentation

And After the 2nd year, we will work to:

O Widen the sales network from existing sales offices to other provinces
O Explore international market opportunities by
beginning with neighboring countries

In other hand, Sales Strategies were defined to reach all types of customers.
Firstly, end users, who are represented by people or households that actually use
the filter system. Secondly, third-parties like the agents (NGOs, retailers) that
purchase the filter systems and then distribute them to end users, either for free or
for a financial exchange.
For this, we first plan to move from fix commissions to monthly commissions for
sales staff which should be proportionate to the sales turnover and incremental to
motivate sales growth. We will also work on energizing retail network by engaging credible retailing outlets like health centers. And for the Direct Sales Scheme,
we plan to recruit local women to be Water Women on a commune basis with
the same profit margin as retailers.

OUR PLANS

WATER FOR ALL

next year, we need to erect a ceramic water filter factory, which

can initially employ 5 full-time
laborers. These employees can
manufacture approximately 600
filters per month according to our
supply chain plan.

Technical training for our future micro-entrepreneurs.

We aim to improve peoples

health; we want to see every
household with access to safe
drinking water. That is why we are
targeting markets with high potential like the African market, where
the need is more urgent and where
we can impact more people.
According to our forecasts, in order to ensure 3% of this market

The capital costs include expenses

for a kiln, molds, factory site and
other pottery tools. The current
estimate on the total for these capital costs is 157000 MAD. In order
to reduce costs for the first year,
we forecast to rent a local. Thus,
the capital cost will decrease to
19000 MAD.

were sold at 85MAD per unit the

factory would have a net income
(after subtraction of initial capital
costs) of about 93600 MAD from
the second fiscal year.
With the life of a filter being 1-2
years, there will be a continued
supply of customers every year
based on when they make their
first filter purchase.

Production costs of each filter are

estimated to total about 50 MAD.
A cash flow model with estimates
of input costs reveals that in order
to recoup initial investment within
the first year, filters would have to
be sold at a price greater than
72MAD (wholesale). If filters

With that Investment, we could achieve our goals; we could make more difference in peoples life. We are Vernet, and our
aim is to improve customers daily lives, our goal is to make happier and healthier citizens throughout Asia, Africa, South
America and beyond. Our intention is to give an opportunity for women to become micro-entrepreneurs.
We are Vernet, and we are full of ambitions and energy to reach the next milestone of our business. Step by step, to
achieve our ambitions in order to be a leading Moroccan social enterprise offering water filtration and sanitation products
which will drive positive improvements in the overall health of people.
